My husband was 55 when he was first diagnosed with Buergers. That was 3 years
ago. He quit smoking the day he was diagnosed. He took medication during
the winter months, medication to lower his blood pressure, which in effect
thins his blood. His hands are affected. He had relatively few problems.
Then we get a killer winter this year and he now has been diagnosed with
Carpal Tunnel due to the Buergers. He is unable to use his left hand. It is
swollen and very painful. We are going to try using alternative medical care,
such as a chiropractor. Our appointment is next week, so will let you know
how it goes. So no, it does not go away when you quit smoking. But he has
gone three years without any major problems. Our physician told us to move
to a warmer climate, however that isn't always easy. I would be more than
happy to have you mail me with any concerns you might have and maybe I can be
of some help. The people in this group are very helpful. It has been a
godsend for me.
