Hi....I need your immediate attention for this survey. My deadline
got pushed up to supply documentation on using young green coconut
kefir. I need specific documentation for using YCK and autism.
Clemson is in the stages of gathering documentation for this. Please
cut and paste this message into a reply and answer the following
questions. If you have a doctor, therapist, or teacher that can
document any changes after using YCK, you can post this separately.
If you are a Body Ecology Coach you can fill this out for a client.

How long have you been using coconut kefir?

How much does your child drink?

How much did you initially start giving?

Do you use fresh coconuts or box?

What do you use to ferment your coconut water: BED starters (which
one's), liver kefir grains, or other?

What changes do you attribute to using YCK?

stool?

behavior?

appetite?

other?

Did you notice a die-off reaction from using young green coconut
kefir?

Were you using any type of probiotic before starting the young green
coconut kefir?

Did you start using a probiotic while starting the young green
coconut kefir?

Did you start any other types of therapy or supplementation while
using the young green coconut kefir that have influenced your
findings.

I really need your support. Please take a few minutes to answer this
questionnaire and reply to the group. Just cut and paste the
questions and reply. If you have any friends that you know that
would want to participate can you share with them.

Hi...it is very bittersweet. I want everyone to feel welcome and join
the message board at bedrok community. It will be open to the public
until February 1st. You can try it out and decide if you want to
become a part of our organization. I have decided it be best to offer
a money back option. If you join and decide within 30 days that the
group isn't something you would benefit from, we will gladly return
your money. It only seems fair.

until later....Diane Farr

I've been doing it here. I think you would want some liquid to make
sure it disoved well. I don't recall the capsule number we use but I
can get about five capsules for one scoop. It's got to be a great
start to a child's day, a scoop of vitality, some cod liver or krill
oil, and YCK.

Please join us at bedrok communtiy.

Bedrok Community
Hope support and education for autism

Bedrok Community recently contacted Clemson University about testing
and doing research on young green coconut kefir and its effect on
children with autism and they were immediately interested. The Food
Science and Human Nutrition department has been given the go ahead
for exploratory work. January 2008 Clemson University's
Microbiology Dept. will ferment young green coconut kefir in a
controlled environment; put it under the microscope and see what it
contains. Bedrok Community is responsible for gathering
documentation on use in the autism community for a research
proposal.

Felix Baron, Ph D., a professor at Clemson Universities Food
Processing and Biotechnology Department, is very hopeful that if we
get good documentation from families and doctors about their
experiences using young green coconut kefir that they will get
funding to do further research and begin clinical studies on autistic
children.

We have another professor that is also interested in the coconut
kefir. Xuping Jiang is starting preliminary studies on the effect of
both the plain young green coconut water and a kefired version on
Helicobacter pylori bacteria (H. pylori). Her research is to help
with gastritis and ulcers which often leads to stomach cancer. In
one study, half of the autistic children had this dangerous bacteria
in their guts.

We are asking that anyone with an autistic child that is using the
young green coconut kefir or a doctor that has been suggesting it to
their patients with results that they would like to report to send
this documentation to
dianefarr@...
Bedrok Community at 23 Club Drive, Greenville, SC 29605.

The members of Bedrok Community are very passionate about pursuing
research and studies that show the young green coconut kefir is safe
and effective in the autism community; so we are very excited of this
recent news.

MIT: Missing protein may be key to autism

http://www.cnsfoundation.org/site/News2?news_iv_ctrl=-1&page=NewsArticle&id=7741\
&autologin=true

   December 5, 2007
Source: Massachusetts Institute of Technology
A missing brain protein may be one of the culprits behind autism and other
brain disorders, researchers at MIT's Picower Institute for Learning and Memory
report in the Dec. 6 issue of Neuron.
The protein helps synapses develop. Synapses--through which neurons
communicate with one other-underlie our ability to learn and remember. Now
Li-Huei Tsai, Picower Professor of Neuroscience at MIT, has uncovered an enzyme
that is key to that protein's activity.
Synapses are complex structures consisting of ion channels, receptors and
intricate protein complexes that all work together to send and receive signals.
Improperly formed synapses could lead to mental retardation, and mutations in
genes encoding certain synaptic proteins are associated with autism.
Tsai studies a kinase (kinases are enzymes that change proteins) called Cdk5.
While Cdk5's best-known role is to help new neurons form and migrate to their
correct positions during brain development, “emerging evidence supports an
important role for Cdk5 at the synapse,” she said.
To gain a better understanding of how Cdk5 promotes synapse formation, Tsai's
lab looked into how Cdk5 interacts with synapse-inducing proteins-in particular,
a protein called CASK. CASK--a key scaffolding protein-is one of the first
proteins on the scene of a developing synapse.
Scaffolding proteins such as CASK are like site managers, supporting
protein-to-protein interactions to ensure that the resulting architecture is
sound. Mutations in the genes responsible for Cdk5 and CASK have been found in
mental retardation patients.
“We found that Cdk5 is critical for recruiting CASK to do its job for
developing synapses,” Tsai said. “Without Cdk5, CASK was not in the right place
at the right time, and failed to interact with essential presynaptic components.
This, in turn, led to problems with calcium influx.” The flow of calcium in and
out of neurons affects processes central to nervous system development and
plasticity--its ability to change in response to experience.
Gene mutations and/or deletions in synaptic cell surface proteins and
molecules called neurexins and neuroligins have been associated with autism. The
problem with CASK recruitment investigated by the Tsai laboratory creates the
same result as these genetic changes.
The Picower study also provides the first molecular explanation of how Cdk5,
which also may go awry in neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer's,
promotes synapse development.
"There are still a lot of unknowns," said Tsai, who is also a Howard Hughes
Medical Institute investigator. "Causes for psychiatric disorders are still very
unclear, but accumulating evidence strongly suggests that alterations in the
synaptogenesis program can lead to these serious diseases.”

What are static brain injuries?
http://www.cnsfoundation.org/site/News2?page=NewsArticle&id=7727

   Donald Marion, MD, MSc
Science Officer
Static brain injuries can be broadly defined as injuries that occur at a
particular point in time, and result in damage to relatively well-defined
locations in the brain. Such a designation is perhaps most useful in
distinguishing static injuries from the progressive pediatric brain diseases
such as brain tumors, some of the glycogen storage diseases, or Rett Syndrome.
Some of the most common static injuries are traumatic brain injury, perinatal
hypoxic/ischemic encephalopathy, and pediatric stroke. It is estimated that as
many as 20,000 children per year are hospitalized with moderate to severe
traumatic brain injury. The incidence of severe perinatal hypoxic/ischemic
encephalopathy is 2-4 cases/1000 live births, and it is most common in premature
and low birth-weight infants. Stroke in children is certainly uncommon compared
to the incidence in the elderly, but it can occur following the rupture of
malformed blood vessels , or arteriovenous malformations. In other
cases, occlusion of a major cerebral artery can occur from blood clots
dislodged from the heart in children with congenital heart disease, or sluggish
blood flow in the case of sickle cell disease, and cause infarction or death of
a portion of the brain receiving it’s blood supply from that artery. Stroke has
been estimated to occur in 2.5/100,000 children/year. Other less common causes
of static brain injury include infections of the brain (encephalitis of
meningitis), carbon monoxide poisoning, or radiation necrosis.
The extent of brain damage and clinical manifestations of the disease are
related to the cause of the static injury. For example, hypoxic/ischemic
encephalopathy, and some cases of severe traumatic brain injury, will damage
large areas of the brain in both hemispheres. Such diffuse injuries are likely
to result in severe cognitive, behavioral, and motor disabilities. But brain
injury caused by stroke tends to be localized, more likely to result in specific
motor deficits, and less likely to cause cognitive impairment. Each of these
diseases is associated with typical MRI findings. Perinatal hypoxic/ischemic
encephalopathy, particularly if severe, results in cystic and diffuse
white-matter injury that is termed periventricular leukomalacia, or PVL. Stroke
causes a discreet area of the brain to appear either dead or severely damaged,
with very well defined margins.
While static brain injuries tend not to cause gradually progressive
deterioration in the child’s neurologic or general health, there clearly is
symptomatic progression, or progression of behavioral and cognitive deficits, in
many of these kids as they grow older. In fact, very disabling symptoms may not
even appear early after the injury. In many cases behavioral problems are
magnified in children with static injuries as they progress through adolescence
and the early teens. Several years ago a pair of neurologists (Scott and
Jankovic) from Baylor College of Medicine published a study of 53 subjects with
static brain injuries and showed that, among those injured before age 2, the
mean time delay from injury to onset of dystonia was 25.5 years.
Current treatment of children with static brain injuries is primarily focused
on physical and cognitive rehabilitation. Children with a diminished level of
consciousness or with attention deficit problems may also benefit from
pharmacotherapy. But these are symptomatic treatments and do little or nothing
to alter the long-term course of the disease. CNS is very excited about the
possibility that stem cell therapy will soon be shown to result in at least
partial repair of the damaged brain, and thereby treat the underlying cause of
the functional disabilities in these children. Laboratory studies, including
those conducted by Dr. Evan Snyder at the Burnham Institute in California,
clearly demonstrate the feasibility of stem cell transplants and the ability of
these cells to repair damaged neural systems. And many of the problems that
limited progress in the past, such as rejection or differentiation of stem cells
into cells other than neurons, have recently been overcome.
In February of next year, CNS, together with Texas Children’s Hospital, will
host a 2 day Static Brain Injury Workshop. During that meeting some of the
nations leading stem cell biologists will convene to define the current most
pressing research questions regarding the successful treatment of children with
static brain injuries. We anticipate that the group will identify the few
remaining impediments to the successful translation of a large amount of
laboratory work into clinical trials in children with hypoxic/ischemic
encephalopathy, traumatic brain injury, and stroke.

Dear Santa,

I've been a good mom all year. I've fed, cleaned and cuddled my
children on demand, visited the doctor's office more than my doctor and sold
sixty-two cases of candy bars to raise money to plant a shade tree on the
school
playground. I was hoping you could spread my list out over several
Christmases, since I had to write this letter with my son's red crayon,
on the back of a receipt in the laundry room between cycles, and who knows
when I'll find anymore free time in the next 18 years.

Here are my Christmas wishes:

I'd like a pair of legs that don't ache (in any color, except purple,
which I already have) and arms that don't hurt or flap in the breeze, but
are
strong enough to pull my screaming child out of the candy aisle in the
grocery store.

I'd also like a waist, since I lost mine somewhere in the seventh month
of my last pregnancy.

If you're hauling big ticket items this year I'd like fingerprint
resistant windows and a radio that only plays adult music, a television that
doesn't broadcast any programs containing talking animals, and a
refrigerator
with a secret compartment behind the crisper where I can hide to talk on the
phone.

On the practical side, I could use a talking doll that says, "Yes,
Mommy" to boost my parental confidence, along with two kids who don't fight
and
three pairs of jeans that will zip all the way up without the use of power
tools.

I could also use a recording of Tibetan monks chanting "Don't eat in
the living room" and "Take your hands off your brother," because my voice
seems to be just out of my children's hearing range and can only be heard by
the dog.

If it's too late to find any of these products, I'd settle for enough
time to brush my teeth and comb my hair in the same morning, or the luxury
of eating food warmer than room temperature without it being served in a
Styrofoam container.

If you don't mind, I could also use a few Christmas miracles to
brighten the holiday season. Would it be too much trouble to declare ketchup
a
vegetable?

It will clear my conscience immensely. It would be helpful if you could
coerce my children to help around the house without demanding payment
as if they were the bosses of an organized crime family.

Well, Santa, the buzzer on the dryer is calling and my son saw my feet
under the laundry room door. I think he wants his crayon back.
Have a safe trip and remember to leave your wet boots by the door and
come in and dry off so you don't catch cold.

Help yourself to cookies on the table but don't eat too many or leave
crumbs on the carpet. (you promised me last year you would lose some weight
with me so next year you and I could be a cute size two Blondie...OK, some
requests go too far, but none the less.....

Yours Always,

MOM...

P.S. One more thing...you can cancel all my requests if you can keep my
children, healthy, safe and of course, young enough to always believe
in Santa.

*Santa has asked that this gets passed on to all the mommies you know

Brightest Wishes For The Day,

Kirshner

I'm not sure I will be brave enough to try it like that again, :-) I had

As far as I can tell, I did not receive an e-mail confirming sign up- but
everything seemed to go through OK. It took me 3 tries today to get the
message board to show up when I tried to access it but it recognizes me (in the

not log in my own name, I used the support password.

Could this be a combination of using AOL and MacIntosh computer?

this group is eventually going to be shut down. you need to go to
bedrokcommunity.org now and join there. diane is giving a free grace period for
awhile but eventually you will have to pay to be a member of the new community.

also if you don't subscribe there are file folders by each thread and if they
are manilla it has a new post and if they are gray there is no new posts. also
it says on them the last time and who posted.

For the post that I am signed up for, I actually receive an e-mail
from BEDROK COMMUNITY that includes the post. I can then "Click" on
a link in the e-mail ( that was sent to me personally ) in order
to "reply" to the message.

Does this make sense?

The system will send you an automatic e-mail once you sign up. You
must respond to this e-mail to "confirm" your intent to join,
otherwise your memberdship will NOT be activated.

If you have problems contact me directly and I will see if I can
assit, at the step you are ON!

Diane/Group

IT is an EASY process, on our end, to sign up for the message board!
Are members in need of some assistance to get signed on?

Do you require assistance in this matter?

I must say, that I am enjoying the new message boards!! Each tread is
so much easier to keep organized!!

Since everything is "listed" according to the topic and author of the
post, you can comment on post made days and weeks ago, without any
problems.

You all are going to LOVE it!!! Diane is even giving a two
MONTH "FREE" trial period.

You have nothing to loose, in giving it a shot. If you need help
signing up, you may contact me at

and I will do what I can to assist!!!

I would just put whatever Neem is recommended orally in the bag. I've never used
it myslef but that is usually the safest way to go with something new.
Natasha had a yogurt business in Europe. She now sells probiotics under the name
"Natren." I've bought them at the HFS but you can order online too. She has a
great book Probiotics Natures Healers which I found helpful and nformative.
