I was also GBS positive with the birht of my ASD
kiddo. I was unprepared for the pain and the
unnatural setting, and had an epidural, and he was of
course given the Hep B shot. My four month old son I
wasn't GBS positive for, and he had a natural delivery
and no Hep B. He did get a very serious Eye infection
at 2 months for which we had to hospitalize him. I
recall them asking if I was GBS positive at his birth,
so there can be repercussions for GBS maybe later on.
Its a tough call, but I think some of the
interventions for birth are good, just not all in
combo. I was given antibiotics orally as well as IV
antibiotics with my first born, but I really think
that the epidural and the hep B vaccine were worse for
him. Antibiotics are tough on the body but are
wonderful when really necessary. I know there are
probiotics that can be given to babies. Maybe talk to
your doc/midwife about that. At any rate, if you want
a homebirth, GBS should not stand in your way.
Good luck
