Thanks for telling me your story. I'm thinking about moving as well, but in the meantime I will try to control the situation any way that i can. It's so scary to move into another building because of this thing. My greatest fear of moving, besides bringing the bbs with me, is having infested neighbors that will have the bbs keep coming into my new apartment. Then I would have moved for nothing. I really, really hope this does not happen.
I'm happy for you that you moved with success.
Regards to you.

I didn't set an alarm. I just kept waking up on my own because I was so stressed out. But setting an alarm is a good idea if you can't do that. We need our sleep so I wouldn't suggest that anyone do this on a regular basis. As for what happened to me...I had an uncooperative landlord and uncooperative neighbors (who were severely infested) in my building in NY. We were being treated by a PCO, but it seemed that the bugs were either not dying in my apt or kept coming in from the infested neighbors above. It just kept getting worse. We couldn't control the infestation without the help of the landlord and the neighbors and I was slowly but surely losing my mind. So we broke our lease and moved out. I left with nothing. I was lucky in the sense that I'm single and had very few things to begin with. I realize that everyone isn't in that situation. When I left my apt, I moved in temporarily with a coworker and I was so afraid of bringing them with me that I decided to bring nothing. I kept my cell phone and credit cards and sent important documents (passport, etc) to my parents in a plastic bag which is being stored in their garage. But again, I should add that I had very few things to part with as I've been living abroad on and off for the last 10 years. So that was the solution for me, but I understand that not everyone can do this or even wants to. We reported the landlord to the city and tried to talk to the other neighbors about what was going on before we left. The infestation was in my room and my roomate miraculously wasn't really affected (2 bites right at the end for her) so she kept all of her things except her bed and moved into a new apartment and is fine. Although I must admit, I'm afraid to visit her new apartment. So it's been 4 months since we left and so far so good. But I live in paranoia that I'll get them again and I'm really trying to control that. That's my story.Hang in there. This can't go on forever.
JANET MOSS <nyjammin@verizon.net> wrote:Julie, your advice sounds good as far as waking up and trying to get the bugs in action. Did you set your alarm clock or did you just naturally wake up on your own? I don't want to discredit Mr. Lou Sorkin in any way. He's a real nice man who knows his stuff and is willing to ID bugs for free which is a lot more that other people are doing about this friggin' epidemic. What I believe is what I believe and is in no way a factor as to how good he is or what he is doing..
The thing is that I used to see the bugs, but now they are hiding every which way. I woke up at 3am this morning to find about 5 blood stains that were not there before. So, I couldn't fall asleep after that. I also checked on my son to see if I see bbs in his bed, but nothing. Dunno if it all happened at once cause they were under my pillow toward the darker side of the room away from the nightlight I keep on to make me feel and sleep better. Those damn bugs knew to go under my pillow towards the darkness, those su.kers! There were no stains on the underside of my pillow, only on the sheet. My pillow is encased so I'm hoping that they are not in my pillow. I don't see evidence to suggest otherwise. Also, how did you get rid of them, if you don't mind me asking and how long did it take you?Thank you!
julie holaway <holawayj@yahoo.com> wrote:You're NOT crazy. Having a bug infestation of any kind is very, very, very stressful. People often look at me like I'm crazy when I talk about my bed bug ordeal. It's because it doesn't get enough publicity in the news, so people think if they haven't heard about it then it must not really exist. They also don't know how hard it is to get rid of them or the psychological number it does on you. So they just think, "What's the big deal? It's just a few bugs!" Well, everyone here knows what the big deal is, so you can at least take comfort in that. Now, if Lou said they are not bed bugs, did he say what kind of bug he thought they were? And are you getting bites on a regular basis still? When I had them and it was really bad, I was waking myself up every couple of hours. And almost every night I found one or two on my sheets and I got some scotch tape and put it right on them and then stuck it to a piece of paper. I had quite a collection. That's the best way to get a whole, visible bug to show the PCO, landlord, boyfriend, ec. Now, I want to believe Lou because I don't want you or anyone else to have them. I hope he's right. But I understand that you are sure you have them. Try to wake up (between 2 and 5) a few nights and see if you catch any and have your scotch tape handy.
nyjammin10 <nyjammin@verizon.net> wrote:Update, the regular pco came by today because he always comes by the
1st Thursday of every month. He said how's it goin'? I said we still
have bbs and I showed him some blood spots on my sheet. He was
scratching his head saying that he used the same chemicals once on 2
other apartments in my building and I'm the only one still
complaining. That if he comes back again it will be 3 treatments and
that maybe we are doing something wrong. I showed him all the things
in bags that we have and the encasement on the mattresses, etc. My
thing is to try to keep him coming back but I do not know if that's
going to work. He says that next time he comes and sprays that he
will have someone else supervise him, whatever that means. Meanwhile,
I'm going the Murphy's route and washing the floors and everything
with Murphy's then I'm going to vacuum and put de down after that.
Maybe the other people in my building do not know the other signs of
bbs and they still have them or maybe the pco caught the problem
early enough so as they do not have problems? Who knows. I'm also
going to try steaming.
So, now, EVERYONE thinks I'm crazy. My boyfriend, the pcos, my super,
other pcos I've hired. And the thing is, that my boyfriend was asking
around and those people also said I was nuts and the pcos, super all
agree with him. They all agree with each other. When I brought sample
of what I thought were bbs to Mr. Lou Sorkin, even he said that those
weren't bbs. But I KNOW that they were bits and pieces of bbs. I know
because never in my life did I see anything like that and the shape
is that of bbs but without the legs and antanae, etc. So am I crazy?
Are we all here on the internet a bunch of loonies? I would really
appreciate it if SOMEONE, ANYONE I could ask and talk to, an expert,
who AGREES with me to prove these people wrong.
I will not let these people talk me down. I will not let these people
tell me I'm nuts. I guess I'm the crazy person who doesn't think
she's crazy.
btw: when we told the pco's assistant about the reactions my son had
to the pesticides, he said "yeah, when you come in contact w/them.
You need to stay outta the house for a day." That is NOT what he told
us last time. He said 6 hours and once everything is dry we can come
back. Why the hell would I not follow the pco's advice. People
changing their stories and the such. All I need now is for you guys
to say I'm crazy and I'll check myself into a loonie bin, I swear. I
mean, I not that stupid. I do have a college degree w/honors. Well,
maybe I imagined that too? Am I in the friggin' Twilight Zone or
something?
