Advice and support for UK parents who have decided on circumcision for their sons.
Although 85-90% of American boys benefit from routine neonatal circumcision, and it is still a widespread procedure in countries such as Australia and Canada, neonatal circumcision is still not offered routinely in UK maternity hospitals.
Thus, despite the accumulating scientific evidence in support of circumcision, not only can finding someone willing to perform the operation be difficult, but reactions to your decision can be negative, both from medical professionals and friends and family.
Asking about this procedure in public parenting forums inevitably attracts criticism from confirmed opponents of circumcision. In response, this group was founded as a resource for parents who have already made the decision to circumcise, so they can post without fear of criticism.
Here you will find support from others who are planning to, or have already, had their son(s) circumcised, and suggestions about how to go about finding someone to carry out a circumcision.
Our "mission statement" is four-fold:
1) to educate parents on the importance of circumcision;
2) to publicise clinics and practitioners that provide neonatal circumcision;
3) to act as a support group for parents seeking circumcision for their newborn sons, or who have already had them circumcised;
4) to push for the ready availability of neonatal circumcision within NHS maternity units either as part of NHS care or at minimal extra cost.
