Somebody mentioned (I think that it was Nick) that the repulsion of
buttons has driven him to love wearing sportswear. Ever since I was a
child, I have loved my bathing suit--I have an extreme sexual fetish
for them.
As a child my unconcerned mother gave me too much exposure to buttons
and the only relief I got was when I wore my bathing suit at the
beach. Even my pyjamas had buttons on them.
Of course, when my mother found this out, she took it away
immediately. On future trips to the beach or on holiday, she wouldn't
let me wear it--said it was unhygenic.
I believe she also shared my fetish for them--my nan told me that she
liked to wear them a lot as a child.
Did anybody else have parents unsympathetic to button phobia?
My mother used it as a stick to beat me with so it seamed. It wasn't
like she was stuck in the mindset of thinking me to be just a subborn
child, as I had been to see a psychiatrist who'd told my parents that
I was phobic of buttons and it was a genuine phobia, not mere
crankyness.
I would often cry and scream the house down when she went to dress me
in the horrible things and she just did not care!
I guess she thought that she could cure me by making me face them.
Desensitizing works on fears, but I don't think that it works on
repulsions, as there is no specific consequence to them. I don't like
buttons because they disgust me. I'm not afraid of anything happening
to me whilst I'm wearing them.
