So, who studied Ancient Greek? Can anyone translate the "koumpoun" part? I
don't think the Ancient Greeks had buttons so it seems unlikely that the
etymology is simple enough for the word to translate directly as "fear of
buttons".
Claire.
PS On a sidenote, I am currently working for 4 weeks in a job that requires
me to wear a polo shirt. Fortunately, my boss was understanding enough to
let me cut the buttons off - even so, my confession of being button-phobic
was met with bemusement! So far no-one that I work with has asked why my
buttons are missing. I predict much giggling if they ever do find out.
