I do not know the best thing do do from an Ayurvedic
perspective on kundalini rising.  I would take Todd's
advice on this and also drink plenty of water.  I

   Yesterday at  8.00 PM IST the Discovery channel aired a programme on psychic
healing. It was titled Discovery Spotlight I think. It was a mind blowing
programme but I was extremely tired and could not catch the names of the
characters properly. I will however try to give a rough account and try to be as
accurate as possible. I'm sorry I do not remember the name of the place. It
seemed like Spain I think.

   It featured the work of a healer called John. He is a healer claiming to be an
instrument in the hands of souls who wish to benefit humanity. People usually go
to him after being condemned by the mainstream method. The programme focussed on
a child who suffered from muscular dystrophy, a lady with multiple cancerous
tumours, a lady paralysed by accident, a person with a defective heart valve and
certain other patients. Two scientists, one studying the level of pain in the
patients and also mapping their brains, and a quantum physics specialist Dr
Gautam Goswami, were also featured.

   What immediately drew my attention was the psychic surgery being performed on
camera. I would not have believed what I have seen had not the Discovery crew
filmed it. It was awesome. The doctor who was observing declared that it was
highly unusual that the surgeries being performed, without anaesthesia, could be
tolerated by the patients without even flinching a muscle. The minimum of blood
flow considering the opening of the  wounds was another surprise, he said. The
doctor was also amazed that such critical surgery like removal of deep seated
tumours lodged in throat and spine could be performed only with a knife and
scissors.

   The patients were being taken to a triangle stuck on the wall when the surgery
was being performed. The doctor also said that while his instruments showed
extreme trance like activity in the brain of the healer, there was a significant
reduction in the brain activity of the patients. He said such trance like states
could be induced only after a lot of effort but this healer was able to get into
trances in seconds. The healer also healed with touch where surgery was not
required.

   The quantum physicist said that such healings are often ascribed to placebo
therapy. But the effects of placebo therapy do not last long whereas the
patients here reported long term effects. He said the quantum theory of the
universe could support existence of energy after death and hence the
communication of energy between the dead and the living. He said if we view the
world in terms of energy then many miracles could be explained. The doctor also
reported how he had examined Reiki healers and observed raised energy levels
around their hands during the healing process. The scientists said one had to
have an open mind as many concepts that have been doggedly defended as science
have been changed later based on further evidence.

   Not all people were totally healed but all of them felt better, happier and in
more control over themselves. Not only the patients but the accompanying
relatives too felt better. An young lady described how her family had disowned
her for falling for such "trash" but later her recovery had made the same people
approach the healer with their own problems. The patients said the only problem
was that they had to be strict vegetarians for a period of 40 days after
treatment and also had to abstain from sex.

   The spirits occupying the healer also instructed a relapsed case to revert
back to conventional medicine and this time she was healed completely. The lady
ascribed the cure to the spirits and the healer. Most of the patients were full
of faith but some were also sceptical. However they developed faith after being
benefitted. Faith seemed to play a key part in the whole process.

   "Thy faith has made thee whole" - Jesus.

The treatment is very satisfactory. Many patients go to the
hospitals for the correct settings and the sling and then go
directly there to be treated. There is no psychic element here.

The mainstream doctors have enquired about the herbs and also the
process but the vaidyas there have refused to divulge details under
the plea that the procedure will become ineffective if the knowledge
goes out of the family. I think the proper authorities have to take
interest and assure the family that they will not be cheated if they
reveal the secret. Secrecy is never good for medicine.

Trying to cash in on the trend many have tried to open similiar
treatment centres in Orissa. But they all have failed.

Let me see if I can visit the place and find out more about how
patients are benefitted.

i have worked with a few folks with K disorders with limited success,
but invariably this condition requires that YOU become the healer, that
you gain the knowledge needed to take care of yourself

be very wary of others who say they can "cure" you by virtue of their
own siddhis
not only do they risk injury to themselves, but often it will make it
worse, for e.g. even simple techniques like reiki can make it worse,
but there is sometimes no telling what the effects will be - sometimes
it helps but sometimes not

this is not to say that other people cannot be helpful, but the focus
should be on more mundane assistance like a friendly non-esoteric back
massage or cooking you a good meal

I am by no means an expert at this at all... nor am i a physician.  In the past
my mother has used several of these treatments for skin-related issues:

1.  Mahamanjisthadi Kwath: you may find these at Indian stores in Austin or
Houston. this specialises in blood-purification which is often the cause of a
lot of skin problems.

2.  Triphala Churna (powder): this u can find for sure at the indian stores. 
Typically triphala is taken internally orally. But it is also used on skin and
eyes as a relaxing/cooling agent by taking swabs soaked in water with triphala
mixed in it.

Wonder if others have more details / thoughts on whethere this would work for
perioral dermatitis.

necessity and they are hand in hand with the clinical laboratories sharing the
fees from the clinbical alboratories.
   6   I also know first hand that quite a few  Drug Stores every month calculate
the total sale by them against a doctor's prescription and calculate the
percentage and pay the doctor.

   Regarding th points raised by you.. I regularily practice a little of yoga /
Meditation.

   You said  in your message a healthy mind in a healthy body... I am reminde of
a course that was conducted by Vivekanada Yoga Centre representavtives in
Jakarta. I attended the course. Being one of the senior persons and being the
India club Secretary it fell on me to sum up. After covering the  subject of the
course, I just ended saying " Gone are the days when we used to say healthy mind
in  a healthy body..we should say healthy mind gives you a healthy body free
from disease. The course director said it is a wonderful way of summing it.
After all.. Blood Pressure/ Diabetes, the major killers of the present day
world, are result of Stress, which can be controlled by an individual. Diabetes
in the initial stages can be controlled by diet and regulat excercise and
avoiding stress.
   Acidity is caused in quite a few cases due to drinking water during the meals.
A book was published in Telugu by one Naturopathy Doctor about Water and how it
can control quite a few problems. According to him water which goes out of the
body is to be replaced in a systematic way. Normal human being needs to take
about 4 litres.. spread over morning, after noon and evening/ night. I tried it
and still follow certain of them.

   There are two aspects of this corruption.. one the doctors in the profession
and other, the pharmacuetical manufacturers and of course the aviodable
Government interference.

   The last and the most immoral one is the sale of organs.. in this apart from
the doctors, and the patients the middle men also come in.

   If we want to eradicate the corruption there should be a multi pronged attack.

preamble that a good doctor examines the patient clinically by his/her
experience and diagnoses the likely disease. Today doctors straight away

stage.This is beacuse of revised rules to have detailed history of patientin
record and also to get commission from network of laboratories that are minting
money.   Even if you catch influenza it will cost you rs 5000 in Delhi minimum

of Indians live below dollar a day income. Where are ethics? Secondly allopathy
is more suitable for acute diseases and infections and symptom release like pain
reliever spray in cricket ground. Muscle ligaments will take own time to heal
alongwith proper rest, position and noursihing high vitamin ,high protein diet.
Thus doctors should use holistic approach using all types of treatments

First, I would use the most gentle cleanser on your face possible.  One
that dermatologists recommend and I have used is called Cetaphil. I
would also use their moisturizer as well.  Both are gentle enough that
won't cause further irritation.

I would also suggest from the inside out, trying to build up your
immune system more to help fight the irritation.  Certainly try the
basics like Vitamin C and Echinacea (or Echinacea-Goldenseal).  A
favorite of mine is also ingesting fresh, raw garlic.

I hope that helps a little bit....

The other is more common in these days heaviness in the head - but that could
also be attributable to my music therapy experiments. In some of the music
therapy there is marked increase of blood flow in the brain.

I also experience lightness along with passing of electric current in the
spine...
This feeling of passing electric current in the spine also intensifies during
and deep meditation and while I am resting...

   Meanwhile, the Bush administration's proposed $7.1-billion pandemic flu plan
seeks broad restrictions on lawsuits against producers of vaccines and antiviral

   Yesterday's Wired magazine does an excellent review of detailing why this plan
will fail. They conclude:
   "...it will take at least five years to create enough manufacturing capacity
to reach that goal. Then it will take another eight months to create a new
vaccine that combats the specific strain that would be killing people. In other
words, it would be 2011 at the earliest before every American could be
vaccinated against a bird flu pandemic."

The other, even more serious shortcoming of the plan is that it would protect
vacine producers and distributors except in cases of "willful misconduct," a
term to be defined later.

   Lawsuits Not An Undue Burden
   Bush has called "the growing burden of litigation" one of the greatest
obstacles to vaccine production. But critics have pointed out that lawsuits
against vaccines are relatively rare; a recent study of the subject found only
ten lawsuits related to flu vaccine over the past 20 years.

   But if bird flu did develop as projected, there is no way that the flu vaccine
or Tamiflu will mitigate its damage. No way!
   If you want to know how to truly strengthen your immune system so you will
laugh when the flu bug or nearly any other infectious agent seeks to infect you,
then start following the Total Health Program or read the quick tips I posted
last year:
   First, start focusing on eating properly. That means avoiding:

    Fast foods
    Sugars
    Grains
    Trans-fats
   Additionally you can increase the healthy and essential fats like the omega-3
fats found in fish and cod liver oilAlso, be sure to increase the good
carbohydrates like those in vegetables, and the healthy proteins like those in
clean, naturally raised meats (i.e., NOT the kind you typically find in grocery
stores). That means learn your metabolic type as soon as possible so you know
what proportion of fats, carbs and proteins are ideal to build your immune
system.
   Additionally, if you are to successfully prevent the flu, it is also important
to:

    Exercise regularly,
    Get enough sleep,

experience. I have read about saints going through the kundalini
awakening process being anointed in sandal paste and subjected to the
soothening smell of flowers and herbal incense. Many were also given

this treatment. It is a family occupation and they don't divulge their
modality. First the place of the fracture is covered with a poultice of
a certain herbal mixture and over this heat is applied in the form of a
heated iron rod. The patient does not feel the heat. The treatment is
very popular here and even the railways have made a special stoppage at
that place for the convinience of patients. I think I will make a trip
to personally see for myself as it is hardly 2 hours journey from here.
The only problem is I may feel depressed by the sight of so many
patients which is why I have put off goin there.

Orissa is also famous for four "divine manuscripts" which can prescribe
medicines for your ailment. One of them has been subject to scrutiny by
a popular professor of the Utkal University. His research has attracted
many. You have to go to the owner of the manuscript very early in the
morning, light a lamp and wait your turn. If your turn comes your
question is heard and the manuscript opened randomly and that page
contains the remedy. The knowledge about this spread by word of mouth
and a small scale town has developed where there were only a couple of
huts in a paddy field earlier. Even our ex-Prime Minister Sri P V
Narasimha Rao had visited the place. A year after his visit the then
Congress Govt here was instructed to build a highway quality road to

Dear Folks,

I have been undergoing Kundalini awakening since last three years. The process
was intensified as a result of my continuous experiments in music therapy which
stimulates brain physically.

Though I had done homework on this experience of K awakening,  superstimulation
of my nervous system was disabling at times.

I decided not to consult any allopathy practioner because they supress the
process by giving anti-depressants.  Everyone who is experinced in handling this
told that one has to just surrender to the change.

One day I dont know what inspired me but I tried 1 spoon of Bhallatakasav - a
decoction of semecarpus anacardium, trphala and tinospora cordifolia. The
symptoms of internal stimulation reduced almost immediately and since then
I am able to tame my kundalini...

I live in Austin, Texas and I have had a really hard time finding any kind
of Ayurveda practitioners in this area.  I found one, but the fee for a
consultation was very high and I can't afford it.  The reason I am looking
is that I have had this reoccurring skin irritation for many years.  I have
gone to a dermatologist many times and he has said that it has to do with my
hormones and that I have to take an antibiotic until it goes away and then
when it comes back do the same thing.  He says it can keep coming back for
years, which it has.  He has called it perioral dermatitis, which I think is
related to acne.  I was wondering if any of you have any suggestions as to
what I could do to keep this at bay.  I don't like to keep taking
antibiotics all the time.  I think this would be a pitta imbalance and I
think that my prakriti is pitta-kappa, of course I got that idea from some
short self-administered tests.  Any suggestions are welcomed.
