My daughter had 3 irregular periods at age 12. She is going to be 16 in May
and has not had a period since April of 2006. The endo has done all sorts of
tests...they can't find a reason. A delay can cause cancer....is there
anything to make her start her period? They tried Provera and Premerin for one
month.... I don't want her on the hormones they recommend....
Thanks
Kim

PS she has been a vegetarian for almost 5 years....we eat fish but no other
meats....could it be from not eating balanced?

Nearly three years period holiday is too long to tackle. Classical
formulation described in post:
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/ayurvedaonline/message/1114

The medicine described here is not available commercially, and needs
to be made by a vaidya to specific requirement. It has been seen to
be effective for 8-12 months of holiday.

The massage on certain marma points was successful for two cases
where the holiday of 15 months was observed.
The disorder has been called premature ovarian failure and strong HRT
has sometimes caused few periods to appear but it soon becomes
ineffective.
Is there a diabetes history in siblings, parents or grand parents
from both (maternal and paternal side)? Or similar premature ovarian
failure at age less than 35?

No one in the family has diabetes. No premature ovarian failure...Her tests
were all normal , no PCOS, normal ultrasound with a follicle and another
smaller one 6 weeks later when they redid the ultrasound... I have been
concerned
and all the doctors said not to worry until she was 16. Thanks for any

My daughter is going through the same thing, and they found that she has
large amounts of the male hormone testosterone in her system. She has an
appt. coming up in Feb. which we had to wait five months for. She will be
there all day going through many tests. What it will probably boil down to
her pediatrician said will be birth control pills. Why they put your
daughter on menopause medication is strange. Perhaps you should go for a
second opinion?

I was not repling to it because what i know is a very small thing. Take cow's
ghee in a heavy bottom frying pan, put about two spoons or more of grated
jaggery in it.  put off the heat when the jaggery melts and add one teaspoon
sonth (dry ginger powder) mix well then add a tea spoon of ajwain.  Let her have
this twice a day. Please do let me know if this works.

If all tests your daughter has done are normal, just LET HER BE !. Don't ruin
her health with hormones or birth control pills or any other medication. I am a
doctor and I have seen many girls like this, being perfectly normal. If she is
vegetarian, this may be the cause of a PERFECTLY NORMAL sublimation of the
menses.

Modern science tests often come to a blind end.
All tests, hormones normal does not mean that everything is OK.

A Dr. looks at only hormones. If a woman is not menatlly ready to
conceive out of fear of added responsibility, no conception even if
hormones within normal range! A woman can conceive without menstruating, even in
menopausal years![Weed, Susun S. Menopausal Years. Ash Tree Publishing.
Woodstock, NY: 1992. 39]

How mental forces, astral forces shape the emotional and body rhythms
still remains a mystery to science, despite number of studies by
researchers. Due to the matter in the brain at birth, the difference between man
and woman is far greater, and woman is the victim of her hormonal rhythms as
shaped by external forces, as
expressed at:

http://groups.yahoo.com/group/ayurvedaonline/message/4622

But the ideas expressed by dr Raymond Bernard do have substance,
somewhat similar ideas, but not taking the extreme view as he takes
are expressed at:

Dear Mr Bate,

I am far from looking at hormones only, as you suggest. I have read carefully
all posts about the case of teenage girl and from her mother s words she seems
to be a normal healthy vegetarian girl ( by the way, vegetarian diet, if it is
a complete diet, is perfect for a teenager), whose only " problem" seems to be
lack of menses. I have seen  cases of women who have menses every 4 or every 6
or every 12 months and they are perfectly healthy happy mothers with normal
hormone tests but on the other hand I have seen women those were also healthy
while teenagers and because they did not have menses every month they were given
hormonal treatment which ruined their health forever...

My only idea is that there are many cases when lack of menses every month can be
perfectly normal if all the other health indicators are normal (including
hormones) and besides putting pressure on a child in such a delicate
psychological period is not beneficial

With respect

Andreea

i do not at all think that in general hormonal treatment should be takne.
If we are herbalists why would we put chemically created or animal homrones into
our bodies?
Ashoka is very helpful in bringing on the cycle.
Dhanurasana is very useful for toning the female system.
Shatavri and triphala taken regularily would be useful as well.
Downward massage from neck to tailbone with warm sesame oil is useufl.
The meridian for the ovaries in the neck may be also blocked.
Find out if the girl in question has any kind of neck pain.

Hari Om !

Store, in a glass bottle ( though earthen pot is better), coriander
(dhania) decoction made by boiling 8-tablespoon dry seed powder in
sixteen cup water........ Boil it & reduce the quantity by 1/4 ( i.e. 4
cup decoction remains) for two days untouched (sugar may be added to
improve its taste). Now from the third day onward, take one cup
decoction, first thing in the morning, for four days regularly in a
month. This process must be repeated for a few months i.e. minimum four
months (on the same dates), you may find the rays of hope. If possible,
intake of fresh coriander-leaves with veg. & pulse is beneficial. With
best wishes,

Swami Brahmavidyananda Saraswati, A Hindu Monk/Sannyasi from India

Vidhyasagarji,

Hari Om !

It's true, 'Kumariasava' contains iron and aloe juice with a few
trace-elements, too......... it may help, somehow ( though, I am not
sure ? ), but more than a dozen teenage -girls have been benefitted with
coriander-decoction. Secondly it's very easy ( & easily available
coriander......... harmless, too) to prepare. Lastly, when parents
come to Ashram and ask me to suggest a few home remedies to bring on
periods in teenager, I suggest this home-remedy only. After feed-back,
It has been reported as result-oriented in 90%-cases. With best
wishes,

Based on built-in natural rhythms in the body, if you choose the first
day of taking the decoction as your birth tithi (lunar phase at birth),
the effectiveness may increase. Moon has intimate connection with bio-
rhythms in women! In every lunar month, when the phase of the moon
coincides with the phase at which she was born, the chances of
menstruation/conception peak. While Indian acharyas recognized the role of moon
in the process of conception, now western researchers also believe it, e.g. see
Lunaception: A Feminine Odyssey into Fertility and Contraception by Louise
Lacey.

And south indians make a special chart based on date and time of first appearnce
of menses!

> Pearl is a moon stone. It is supposed to improve the woman's
> reproductive organs. Will wearing a pearl in the body help?

Ancients knew these connections well.

The marma points scattered all over the body. Wearing metal rings such
as silver, copper, gold at these places attracts astral energy and
keeps corresponding organs in good shape. While ayurveda is more
concerned with physical body, astrology is more concerned with
emotional or astral body. Its connection to moon is clearly brought out
in texts on ayurvedic astrology. Connection of sun in the chart with
causal body in reveals how astrology views human body-mind-spirit
complex in equilibrium with whole of universe.

The silver rings in the big toe helps keep volume of bleeding under
control. Tying black thread here is supposed to increase/start it
according to recent post at the list. Accupuncturist fix a grain with
adhesive tape at these points to reduce PMS symptoms, making menses
easy. The silver chain in the feet (Payal in Hindi) is tied at the
reflexology points corresponding to uterus/ovaries. A heavy silver
chain near waist is very popular in Rajastan, a state where 80% of
Indias Gold is stashed. Gold bangles in the hand also snuggle against
the points corresponding to reproductive organs defined by reflexology. And the
diamond in the nose and in the ear lobe is supposed to keep the fertility at
peak. Notice where ear is pierced. If one looks at the corresponding
accupressure charts, you will see that the centre of earlobe where gold ring is
inserted, corresponds to the pituitary, the master gland which governs all
glands indirectly.

The oriental holistic sciences have much harmony amongst them. Discovering these
harmonies gives respects for all ancient monks. Connecting plants/gems etc to
planets and diseases through verses is a great contribution to human welfare.

The pearl bhasma/silver is used to bring down pitta/heat quickly.
Pearl as well as silver is connected to moon in astrology, the pearl in
silver ring worn in little finger (pinky) is what is recommended to
calm down the mind, heavy bleeding etc. Moon, connected with water
principle and mind, governs the menses also, since their high and low
tides are connected with phases of the moon, moon itself governing
fluidity of rasa and rakta dhatu.

Hope this satisfies the querry.

Dr Bhate
