Dear Vinod
there are no Ayurvedic remedies for lowering triglycerides and LDL
because these are serum markers that are entirely unknown within
Ayurveda. While there may be helpful Indian herbs to lower these
clinical parameters, it is a highly reductionist approach and not even
remotely reflective of Ayurvedic medicine or its focus. What we might
recognize instead is that you are carrying an excess of weight around
your abdomen - this has to go, and so we might employ Ayurvedic
treatments for obesity, as well as understand why it is that this
occurs because it is a fairly unique and recent syndrome that human's
have had to deal with. Triglycerides and LDL are obviously linked to a
significant risk of heart disease, and when understood properly, can
help you take some effective measures:
1. change your diet, eliminate all refined fats/oils and carbohydrates.
Serum triglycerides parallel insulin secretion, so keep insulin down
by significantly reducing sweets, breads, potato, rice, noodles etc,
emphasizing meat like chicken, lamb, fish, with lots of above-ground
vegetables. If you like bitter gourd this is a fabulous food, as well
as garlic, ginger, leafy greens, etc. Eat only fats like ghee,
coconut, sesame and olive oils: avoid any vegetable oil that is stored
in a clear plastic container - these are highly refined and toxic oils
that are unfit for human consumption, e.g. canola oil, gingelly oil,
corn oil, margarine etc.
2. take an omega 3 fatty acid supplement, equal to 1 g of EPA and DHA
daily. Dyslipidemia can also be a manifestation of an omega 3 fatty
acid deficiency. There are other potential nutrient deficiencies as
well, so a good multimineral might be helpful
3. herbs such as Triphala, Guggulu, Haridra, Shilajit and Guduchi are
all examples of beneficial herbs that can reduce medas and prameha, and
have been shown to experimentally reduce triglycerides and LDL
4. regular exercise: everyday you should exercise to the point of
sweating. Choose lower impact exercises, e.g. surya namaskar,
bicycling, walking uphill etc.
if you follow this faithfully your serum triglycerides and LDL should
normalize in about 1-3 months
