Totally different . With the band the non solids period is much
longer .
Also with the band you had to think about everything you eat ,with
this I just have to watch the quanity . About 150 grams is about it
but when you spread 150 grams on a plate its quite a good amount of
food
The thing I love the most is that i can eat everything ,With the band
there are so many things that just cuased blockages and in the end a
vomitting If you use VSG properley there should be no vomitting .I
love it!!!

Thanks..:-)I feel like stopping everybody I meet on the street and telling them about WSL. I wonder when the honeymoon period is going to be over? I know it must stop at some stage but when does it happen?Wouldn't it be great if it never ended and we could control our weight by eating more
or less like other non-fat or is it un-fat people lol?
I use to think that going out to dinner was going to be lost once I had WSL. But you know what.. it's not about the food any more is it? It's about the company..:-) Last night we went out to dinner. I knew I would never be able to finish en entire portion so I ate one prawn and a 1/4 piece of fish from my husbands plate. (The restaurant didn't seem to mind that I didn't place an order and were happy to give me an extra plate.)A little greek salad and I was full..! Yes, I love this surgery!
Welcome, have you had any trouble looking up the links? Post any questions you have, we are a pretty nice bunch here and only just starting out on this Australian board.

Hi all,
I went to see Anne at the hospital today. I was there when she was
being brought up from recovery.
She is doing terrific! She was alert and happy and said to tell you
that she feels empowered and in control. Isn't that wonderful?
Lynne
Hi Sharyn,
Sorry to hear you're not well. I know exactly how you are feeling
because I get bronchitis twice a year. You poor thing.
When I was discharged from hospital on the 16th of june I also had
oral thrush from the antibiotics I was given. Were you on them in the
hospital as well?
As Kath said keep up your fluids and sit on that pity pot for however
long it takes!
By the way, welcome to the losing side..:-)
Cheers,
Lynne
Today I'm feeling stressed out of my brain and the desire to self
medicate with comfort food is the strongest it has ever been since
my surgery 3 weeks ago.
Images of hot cheesy pizzas, oily hot chips and rich decadent
chocolate cake have been invading my mind since I got a call from my
poor frazzled nerves daughter at 5:00AM informing me that she was
stranded in San Francisco having missed the connecting flight to
Chicago and the only available flight wasn't until Saturday
morning. Two days from her today! Two flights had left already and
they kept bumping her name to the bottom of the stand-by list
because she isn't a frequent United flyer.
I spent the morning talking the United airlines people in Manila and
the U.S. with no luck. I spoke to my sister-in-law that happens to
be a travel agent to see if we could get her on a different airline
out of S.F but everything is booked solid due to the long holiday
weekend( July 4th independence day).
After about 5 hrs of extreme hassle I finally got her into a hotel
near the airport and managed to get one of the indifferent united
employees to guarantee her a flight tomorrow morning along with a
boarding pass!
Whew... what a day.
Sorry I've gone on for so long. I needed to get that out of my
system.
Now, where's that bottle of water?:-)

Hi Tomascena, sorry to hear that you are unwell. Welcome to the new
board. Are you managing to get your fluids in? I think you deserve
to sit on the pity pot, you poor thing. It's bad enough at the best
of times to have a chest infection let alone after you have had
surgery. What sort of work do you do?
I had lapband surgery on June 20th. That was uneventful and I stayed
in hospital two nights as the hospital is a good four hour drive away.

GP yesterday and I have a chest infection and oral thrush..which I have
never had in my life. I have no energy and a 15 minutes walk wears me
out. So I guess I'm just sitting on the pity pot at the moment and
venting. I was supposed to go back to work on Monday but have taken
another week hoping that this chest infection will have cleared up and
I'll be able to cope with my busy job.
Hi Sue and welcome!

can all look forward to.

Hi Guys,
Sorry I missed the get together last night. Thanks Kath for the phone
call today. It is nice to know you were thinking of me. Really wish
I could have been there. This site is fantastic. You have done a
great job Lynne. Hi Carla, sorry I did not get to meet you last
night. Anyway, can't wait to see how this takes off. I am sure it
will be great.
Thanks again everyone.
Take care.
Sue
Well done Lynne, you must have stayed up late to do this. You go

up with you later tonight. Had to change my name to
hermajestyprincesskath as someone on Yahoo groups already is Princess
Kath. What a cheek. Haha.
love kath
lynne - what a wonderful start - thank you for your beginning and
organisation - this will be a welcome site for australians.
This will only be a beginning

Ever wondered why your friend who never goes to the gym, has a
milkshake and cake for morning tea and is first to the biscuits and
cheese after work is still slim?
The answer may come from a complicated story, which started over 20
years ago when an American professor noticed an odd result while
testing blood pressure tablets. Some of the subjects had unexplained
weigh losses.
The trial required compiling detailed findings from many different
research areas. Findings were used from population data which found
that people who had low calcium intakes were more likely to be obese
and experiments showed that certain mice, who like humans had a
tendency to put on fat on around their middle. This led to intricate
biochemical work trying to determine how cells operate in the
controlling systems for making and burning fat. Finally, after
developing theories from all these research areas a special dietary
experiment was devised for groups of overweight humans to see what
happened to their fat stores.
The easiest of these human studies to describe here is one where
three similar groups of overweight American men were fed for 6
months. Their daily food intake was 2000 kilojoules less than they
had previously been eating. The first group was supplied food which
was low in calcium. The second had the same food but were given an
800 mg calcium tablet daily, while the last group had the same
amount of food but their daily intake included high calcium dairy
foods. This provided the same calcium intake as the group who had
the calcium supplement.
What happened after 6 months? They all lost weight as they should
have. . .but there were differences. The average weight loss in the
first group was about 5 kilograms. . . . not bad. The second group
who ate the same foods but took the calcium tablet every day, lost
over 8 kilograms. . . better. The third group, who ate the same
amount of kilojoules but had high calcium foods (their intake
provided the amount of calcium recommended for most older
Australians) lost over 10 kilograms!!
Simply for the same effort, those who had higher calcium intake lost
more fat. Not only that, more of their fat loss came from the place
we hate it most!. around their tummies!
How does this answer the original unexplained result…the people who
lost weight had been testing blood pressure tablets that contained
calcium!
So how does this help us? It appears that to effectively burn fat a
certain level of calcium is necessary within the cells. To achieve
this we need daily calcium intakes, moreover there may be something
in dairy foods which helps get that calcium into the cells more
effectively.
For healthy bones we need at least 3 servings of calcium rich foods
per day. A serving is 1 cup milk (reduced/ low fat or skim), a small
tub of yoghurt (regular, low or no fat); a small piece of slice of
cheese (30 grams). Almonds also provide calcium or two bunches of
green leafy vegetables, or calcium fortified equivalent of the dairy
sources. Now have this for fat health!!
Hello and welcome
We, believe that success with weight loss surgery, and in life, can
be found when we focus on inner strength rather than inner weakness.
As recovering morbidly obese people we have often been made to feel
weak for our illness. We are not weak. We have inner resources that
make us beautiful unique beings with intelligence, talent and love
to share with the world. Our philosophy empowers individuals to
recognize and harness their own inner strengths.
The first step to personal empowerment is personal responsibility. We
must hold ourselves accountable for making our weight loss surgery
successful. When we take responsibility we will feel liberated and
motivated to invest personal equity in our success.
Personal empowerment is not borne of the statement "I am empowered."
It is a state of mind cultivated with education, thought and
validation.
This support group program and online resources are actively engaged
in the pursuit of personal empowerment for all of us. The following
core values support this philosophy:
Socialization & Culture
Social Equality
Education & Understanding
Health & Wellness
Information & Communication
Opportunity & Sustainability
We are founded on the strength of relationships
This group is inclusive: everyone is welcome and encouraged to
participate
The managment hopes you find safe haven here
We will strive to be at all times flexible, adaptable, intelligent
and
creative
All the best,
Lynne
