Hello all,
Back home, all cut and dusted!
My sleeve was done last Tuesday arvo by Dr Durmush at Liverpool SW
private. I was on my feet the next day, wandering the ward and
generally making a pest of myself. Tubes out Friday am at which time I
started to reduce the intake of pain/anti-inflammatories. Left hosp.
Sat am.
For those of you who don't know, I went to the local Canberra surgeon
(intending a band) but wasn't happy with the attitude. Then went to
Bowral after which I decided that the band was innapropriate. Durmush
was not a random choice - he came highly recommended from Germany
where he learnt the procedure. In the last moments before 'going
under,' I was pleased that I had taken the trouble to search out
someone with whom I had confidence. His is a family practice and
mercifully free of most of the heirarchical grandstanding you get with
some in that profession.
There were 3 other sleevettes in ward 1-South w. me who didn't know
about this group, so I spread the word (Hi Poppy, Lynette - hope
you're doing well) + I also left details of the group with the nursing
staff and they've put up a little notice about AWLS. The nursing staff
were fantastic in 1-South and, being a small ward, they have become
very expert sleeve carers: professional and yet personable.
So that's my little contribution to the discarded organ stockpile.
I feel fab. 2 minor -ves: I was worried, from reading this group about
the stockings being a pain in the (a* - well legs actually!) but I
found them ok. Actually I liked them as I do easily get cold feet. And
the second -ve? l I only lost 10Kg in that (last) week :-; Added to
the 20Kg pre-op, I've started to drill extra holes in my belts!
To Europe at End of May for 10 days of summer and then back to our
winter. brrrr. I'm not going to be much good at bra-swapping on this
group but I'm happy to talk to anyone considering - including any
curious blokes.
Special thanks to Matt and to Sue who were very supportive on the
'phone.
David.
