Great decision and good luck with it all. I had surgery in July 08. I am 43 yo and am about 5ft 7. I weighed about 127 to begin with, but lost 6-7 k on the pre-surgery diet (Optifast). I am now sitting right on 100.
I haven't actually been trying to diet too much, just working on paying attention to my body and how and what I feed it. I had to go back into hospital to have my gall bladder out in November and have had bouts of pneumonia and chest infectsions, so I am just now getting into a good exercise routine and I expect the numbers to start going down again. I am aiming for 65-75, so I am about halfway there.
I still think the surgery was a great decision and I know that I would not be where I am today without it. Best wishes to you and let us know ifyou have any questions. People here are really happy to help.
Cheers
Susie

Hi Debbie,
I’ve been away for Easter. Welcome to the group.
I am 46 and 157cm, my goal weight is 68kg. I had a vertical sleeve in May 2008. I have lost 26 kg and only have 4 kgs to go. I couldn’t be more pleased with my decision to have WLS.
I have tracked my progress and have posted photos if you would like to look at Sue’s Journey on the files section or in photo gallery.
My biggest challenge has been the last 4 kgs which I have been sitting on for a while now. In saying this I have not exercised as much as I have in the past few years and I have survived Christmas, new years, my husband’s 50th, my birthday and Easter as well as being on a cruise and holidaying twice without putting go at least 5 kg that I would have in the past. I have maintained my weight at 26 kg well so now my aim is to get back on track and get rid of this last bit before I buy winter clothes!!
Looking forward to hearing how you are going.
Sue

Hey Carole
Thanks for the welcome and for telling me a little about yourself. WOW! you're so close to the finish line! I've done a lot of thinking about where I want my weight loss to finish up and I think my prefered weight would be hovering around 70 kgs.
In my bad old yoyo dieting days I once went down to about 57 kgs. Way too light for my frame and my height. It wasn't pleasant. But I've learned a lot the intervening years and certainly losing weight this way has helped me to eat well (with a focus on nutrition) because I'm not being consumed by the ravenous hunger I once had.
Seeing as how you are so close to your goal now, do you mind if I ask you what has been the buggest challenge on the journey? And this question is open to anyone else who might like to respond.
Hugs Debbie

I'm very happy with my progress, now down to 69 kg. I started at over 110 kg. I don't want to lose more than about another 5 kg because I have no desire to be bony. > > I have no regrets whatsoever and my quality of life is vastly improved. > > Best wishes for your future loss > > cheers > > Carole, the elder > (there was a younger Carole ) > > To: awls@yahoogroups. com > From: iamdropbear@ ... > Date: Mon, 13 Apr 2009 13:48:57 +0000 > Subject: [awls] Introducing myself > > >

My surgeon was Dr Jorgensen. I am currently only 2 months into my weight loss journey but so far so good :) My starting weight was 119kgs and as of last week I was 104kgs which puts me only 4kgs off my first personal target of being 100kgs :) > > > > So far I have been thrilled with the results of the surgery and the resulting boost in my health, happiness and self esteem.
