RE: [awls] surgery at last

Hi David

I took in a loose fitting set of pjs, as well as a nightie (boys might want a kaftan).  But the first 24-48 hours there were several tubes and things and the hospital gown and robe they provided seemed easier.  But after that, I was happy to have PJs.  Loose fitting is good because the waist band tends to sit where scars might be and you don't really want any additional pressure there.  I

I'm with Sue - short walks whenever you are able.  Good for circulation (DVT is always a potential side effect and you will probably have pressure stockings or pads stimulating circulation in your lower legs anyways), breathing (they are always concerned about lung capacity post-surgery) and also for digestion.  After the hospital, the digestion/walk combination becomes even more important.

I had my surgery in July last year and am about halfway - but I have had a few injuries and illnesses that have slowed me down in the whole exercise area.  That said, still thrilled I did it and enjoying much better health and quality of life now.

Best wishes,

Susie

Yes, quite strange feelings: it has taken so long to get to this point
and then a chapter of accidents for it to happen in a rush. I am _so_
pleased to have taken the trouble to find a surgeon with whom I'm
happy - it took three attempts, but I'm glad I did.

I've been travelling so no real opportunity to go out. A little
splurge perhaps. I've lost 19 Kg pre. op and the last couple of weeks
has been a bit psychologically weird, whereby I eat something and sort
of dare myself to gain weight as a result and then when I don't I have
to resist the temptation to 'up the ante'. Stupid mind games!
I must say knowing that post-sleeve the number of choices will
eventually be wide compared with a band, makes me glad I didn't go
down that path.

will do thanks Sue - and I look forward to catching up on your
progress. Biggest question is what the heck do people who sleep in the
nude do in hospital - I can't bring myself to buy/wear PJs. A négligée
perhaps :-?

Dave.
