Hi Molly,
I'm so sorry that you lost your father this way. It is so hard to
understand. I lost my husband 4 years ago. My children and I still have
anger toward him and at how senseless his death was. I can understand your
feelings toward your mothers decision to hide it from you, but speaking as a
mother, if my kids hadn't been present and witnessed his death scene, I
might have done the same to them. Try not to be too hard on her...it was a
tough time. Her decisions were probably made in a very confused state of
mind. I believe she was just trying to protect you and your sister, and
perhaps preserve your dad's integrity in your eyes. I would have done
ANYTHING to keep my kids from experiencing this! Losing their dad would
have been painful and sad, but knowing these details has put a very bitter
and "uncomfortable" twist to his loss. I wish they could remember him with
pride and talk about the good things he stood for. That has sadly been lost
with the truth of how he died. How old were you? Were you close to your
father?
Charlotte
