Hi Amy!!
First I would like to know how do you get my e-mail address??
I am a mother of a seven years old boy, he was diagnosted at 2 yrs 4 months
with autism mild. He borned in Minnesota, and we have been lucky in find all the
support in our community with my kid education and therapy.
I think is very difficult for any parents to fight with this, and it is more
difficult if you have to deal with Psychology, teachers, therapeutas in a
language that is not your 1st language.
At home my husband and me just speak spanish but my boy started to talk in
english, just he knew a couple word in spanish, the reason is he started at the
computer at 1yr 3 months with games and this helped him a lot with school
knowledge, and language. Everything was good or excellent but his social skill
was down, speach and also the motor skill.
Now at his seven yrs he is qualifyed in the borderline, but the therapeutic
decided he take more special classes to get successfull in his goals.
Amy, I invited to you to came to visit a forum where they are a lot of Latin
mother as me, we needs some support of someone have autism knowledge. I would
like to introduce to my "virtual" friends have some questions can help them with
their kids.

Hi,
I am a graduate student in the School Psychology program at San Diego State
University. I am doing research for a grant that is looking at specific
cultural issues
related to Latino children being assessed with Autism. I would love to gather
information and personal stories related to Latino children with Autism and
experiences dealing with the educational system (successes, frustrations, etc.)
Particularly relevant are cultural differences you perceive that may have
affected your
child's needs and services. Also, any community groups you may know of would be
helpful. My Spanish skills are weak, but I read in Spanish so you may respond
in
either language. I also will post this in Spanish as well. I appreciate any
help I can
get! Thank you.
Amy
