Breaking News: Players From The Seattle SuperSonics &
Seahawks Set To Attend "Evening of Champions" Dinner
If you've been thinking about attending ASA's "Evening of Champions"
dinner in Seattle, but hadn't quite made up your mind, perhaps this
will help. ASA is pleased to announce that players from the Seattle
SuperSonics, including Nick Collison, and the Seattle Seahawks are
scheduled to attend the July 8 dinner.
So, in addition to helping to honor three of autism's heroes, you will
get a chance to meet some professional ball players. You will also get
a chance to vie for a variety of exciting items in the accompanying
silent auction, including basketballs autographed by All-Stars
Jermaine O'Neal and Tracy McGrady, as well as the beautiful bronzed
statues announced in the last issue of ASA-Net.
A reminder about the event: On Thursday, July 8, at 7:00pm, ASA will
be honoring three heroes of the autism community: Geraldine Dawson,
Ph.D., Director of the University of Washington Autism Center; Vinay
Bhagat, founder of CONVIO Inc., ASA's Web site host; and Charlie
Adams, who is also a world-renowned drummer and father of two children
with autism. The dinner, which will feature talented jazz vocalist
Kelly Harland and parent of a child with autism, is open to anyone who
purchases a ticket.
If you are interested in purchasing a ticket, or in sponsoring or
supporting the event in some way, please contact Tiffany Gill at ASA's
national office by e-mail (
tgill@...) or phone
(301-657-0881, ext. 124).
Long Drivers To Hold 3rd Charity Golf Event To Benefit ASA
Mark your calendars for August 16, 2004, when the Long Drivers of
Amercia (LDA) organization hosts the "3rd LDA Charity Pro-Am" to
benefit ASA. The event, which will also include brunch and a raffle,
will be held at the Harbor Links Golf Course in Port Washington, NY.
"Our second event last summer was a tremendous success and this year
will be just as exciting. My fellow long drive bombers are ready to
hit it hard and our host course [Harbor Links] has been gracious in
once again accommodating our needs. The course is ours for the
afternoon and play should move rapidly," Art Sellinger, owner and CEO
of LDA, said.

Special Thanks To The Employees Of Chevron-Texaco
ASA would like extend a special thanks to the employees of
Chevron-Texaco for donating to NASCAR driver Jamie McMurray's "Drive
for a Cure" campaign, which he launched in April 2004.
You may remember that McMurray joined the autism team when he
announced his "Drive for a Cure" charity promotion at the Texas Motor
Speedway on April 2. McMurray, who drives for Texaco-Havoline Racing
and Chip Ganassi Racing with Felix Sabates, announced that throughout
the 2004 NASCAR NEXTEL Cup season, he will donate $42 (representing
his number) for every lap he leads to ASA. In addition, he will donate
$42 for every pole he wins in 2004.
Thanks to all of you for supporting ASA and the autism community!
