don't know. During the time that I helped facilitate
the local HELP group, we had at least some gay and
lesbian attendees, and certainly others. People who
attend may be encouraged to participate, but are free to
simply listen, and often choose not to reveal much about
themselves, so I have little idea. What I do know it that the
common thread that binds us all is that we know how
difficult herpes can be, and that generally overrides all
other issues, so the group was very supportive in those
cases I remember, as in all other cases.<br><br>I hope
its not too direct or opinionated to say that this
question is much like the issue of herpes itself; the
relative difficulty lies not in the people around you, but
in your own feelings. Perhaps it's an opportunity to
deal with the issue of acceptance in a broader sense.
The fact is that the group would benefit from your
presence because of the need to know what a gay person
faces in dealing with herpes in order to be a resource
for others. As the saying goes, its impossible to
give help without getting some benefit at the same
time.<br><br>For what its worth, when I was first diagnosed, the
only thing that made life worth living was the thought
that a cure would soon be forthcoming. Now, if the
other person seems worthy, I am likely to throw herpes
out on the table early on just to avoid wasting time,
and feel that if they can't deal, its not my problem.
But they usually can, partly because I make it clear
that I am informed and in control of my life. At least
as far as herpes is concerned- the rest is another
case... :&gt;)<br><br>Hope this helps- let me know what

Peter,<br>Most of us have experienced what you
are going through. Getting in contact with others for
support is the right thing to do at this point. Among
other things, it will help prepare you for dating
again. Some of the potential relationships you are
avoiding may be people who have herpes too, so its
important to learn how to talk about it. Local HELP groups
are an excellent resource, the one in Austin meets
the first Thursday each month at Planned Parenthood
on Airport, if you're local. Use the e-mail in my

Since i found out i was carrying the herpes virus
my dating life went to zero...when things got to
serious with someone i backed off without explaning
why..leaving the other one wondering why?...I do not want to
spent the rest of my life alone so i was hoping to find
