I'm going to be there, but I don't know if an event in Fredericksburg
is one I'd think any would "sponsor", but if you've not been to the
Gillespie County Fair for the live horse races (usually called by
long time Memorial Stadium Longhorn voice-Wally Pryor), evening dance
under the stars, and other activities, you are missing out on a good
time in late August. The big day for the Fair this year is August
28th.
Traditionally it has been about impossible to get a hotel room in
Fredericksburg for this weekend, but they have opened a relatively
new hotel many are not familiar with (those who go every year book
their reservations at the same hotels, and those hotels hold their
reservations for them every year). And it looks like a neat facility:

I have checked, they still have rooms available.
You can have fun in Fredericksburg on any weekend, but the County
Fair adds to it:

Friendhelm's has been featured in Southern Living magazine but many
Austinites do not know of it because it is on the opposite end of
town from where Austinites arrive in Fredericksburg. When you are
done with dinner find the bar, it is spacious, maybe the prettiest
bar in Texas.

If you have a RV or want to rough it and camp out, LadyBird Johnson
Park is very nice (RV hookups, camping, good swimming pool to jump in
on a hot August day-also very close to the fair grounds).
