We have been requiring our students to get fingerprinted with a full 50 state
FBI background (through BCI) check for the past few years. We have a livescan
office on campus in the Education department where they can do the
fingerprinting electronically. We get the results back in less than a week, but
it takes 2-3 weeks if it turns up dirt, which it sometimes does. We haven't had
to keep anyone out of the program yet for past offenses, but it has been good to
warn the student that they'll need to declare the offense up front when applying
to take the BOC exam.
The cost to the student is about $50 total.
We also require a 5 panel urine drug test which costs the student about $25.
