I respectfully disagree with some of my collegues on this issue. I
think, given the restrictions placed on students' clinical experiences
during the school year, that pre-season is one of the best learning
experiences outside the context of the program, that an ATS can have.
The students learn what Athletic Training is REALLY about...not just a
20-25 hour week where they have relatively normal hours. The students
learn about team building, as the athletes see the students putting in
just as many hours as they are (and more often, more hours). The
students learn that our profession is WORK.
