Dear Educators:

I need your help, please. NATA frequently submits candidates for
Federal Advisory Panels, and we have an important opportunity to gain
a seat on the DHHS Advisory Committee on Interdisciplinary, Community
Based Linkages (ACICBL). This is the only federal advisory committee
on allied health issues. It resides in the Health Resources Services
Administration. While an excellent opportunity for the athletic
training profession, there are some very specific, kind of obscure
requirements. More details are below, but essentially we need an AT
educator(s) who:

"possess an affiliation with schools that have administered or are
currently administering awards from the following programs: Area
Health Education Centers (AHECs)—2 nominees, Health Education and
Training Centers (HETCs)—2 nominees, Allied Health disciplines—1
nominee, Quentin N. Burdick Program for Rural Interdisciplinary
Training—2 nominees, Podiatric Medicine—1 nominee, and Graduate
Psychology—1 nominee, in addition to one student, resident, and/or
fellow, and one non-academic community-based partner, who are both
currently affiliated with a training grant program represented by the
Committee mandate." ACICBL is concentrating on training programs.

The deadline for submission is June 30, 2007. I will be happy to
assist with the application process for anyone who is qualified, but
before June 21 because of the annual meeting. Alternately, you can
self-nominate without NATA's help. I will post the Candidate
Information Form here. Also: please share this with any athletic
training educators who might qualify.

Thanks for your help on this, and please let me know if you self-
nominate. Regards, cate

The Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) is requesting
nominations of qualified professionals to fill eleven (11)
appointments on the Advisory Committee on Interdisciplinary,
Community-Based Linkages (ACICBL).

The ACICBL provides advice and recommendations consistent with
credible findings in the format of an annual report to the Secretary
and the Congress concerning policy, program development and other
matters of significance related to enhancing interdisciplinary,
community-based training grant programs authorized under sections 751–
756, Title VII, Part D of the Public Health Service Act.

Eligible nominations must represent a fair balance of health
professionals from a broad geographical distribution, inclusive of
urban and rural areas, women and minorities. They must possess an
affiliation with schools that have administered or are currently
administering awards from the following programs: Area Health
Education Centers (AHECs)—2 nominees, Health Education and Training
Centers (HETCs)—2 nominees, Allied Health disciplines—1 nominee,
Quentin N. Burdick Program for Rural Interdisciplinary Training—2
nominees, Podiatric Medicine—1 nominee, and Graduate Psychology—1
nominee, in addition to one student, resident, and/or fellow, and one
non-academic community-based partner, who are both currently
affiliated with a training grant program represented by the Committee
mandate.

Interested individuals may nominate multiple qualified professionals
for membership so that the Secretary may choose from a highly
qualified pool of potential candidates. Nominees must be willing to
serve, possess the relevant background and experience to respond to
the charge of the ACICBL, commit to attend all committee meetings,
and actively contribute outside of formal meetings in the development
of the annual advisory committee reports. Additionally, they should
have no appearance of a conflict of interest that would preclude
their participation and will be asked to provide detailed information
concerning consultancies, research grants, or contracts to permit an
evaluation of this specific requirement. A curriculum vitae and one-
page statement of interest will be required of the nominee to support
experience working with Title VII Interdisciplinary, Community-Based
Training Grant Programs, expertise in the field, and personal desire
in participating on a National Advisory Committee. Qualified
candidates will be invited to serve three-year terms beginning on
October 1, 2007 through September 30, 2010.

All previous recommendations (Theresa Marie Green, AA-C; Donald H.
Richards, MS, RRT; Daniel D. Olsen, CLS) must be resubmitted in that
a modification in the nomination package necessitate the provisions
for a letter from the nominator that provides the name(s) of the
nominee(s) with your assessment of his/her special abilities to meet
the objectives of the ACICBL, a copy of the nominee's most current
CV, and the nominee's one-page statement of personal interest which
includes his/her knowledge or experience with Title VII, Part D,
sections 751-756 in support for health professional training grant
programs. The nominee must also complete and submit the enclosed
candidate information form that requests specific demographic data to
finalize the package. Please alert the nominee of these new
requirements.

Please mail, email, or fax the nomination materials to include
recommendations for new nominees and those previously submitted to my
attention: Louis D. Coccodrilli, MPH, Designated Federal Official,
ACICBL, Health Resources and Services Administration, 5600 Fishers
Lane, Parklawn Building, Room 9-05, Rockville, Maryland, 20857; email

packages must be received no later than June 30, 2007. If you have
any questions, please contact me at 301-443-6950. In my absence,
contact Vanessa Saldanha, ASPH Public Health Fellow via email at
VSaldanha@... or telephone at 301-443-6529.

Thank you for giving careful consideration to the unique
qualifications and important contributions that your nominee(s) will
bring to the ACICBL. Please be assured that the Department will give
full consideration to each individual recommended.

Sincerely,

Louis D. Coccodrilli, MPH
