Last year was our first experience with our students completing some of their
general medical rotation at the student health center. Some of the barriers
that we faced were (1) not all providers were willing to have students shadow
them (2)appointment times were not adjusted to allow a few extra minutes for
clinical teaching. After one semester of doing this, the feedback from both the
students and the providers was mixed. Some students had positive experiences
and saw interesting cases, others did not. I think you really have to have a
health services staff committed to clinical teaching, and who understand what
the AT students need to gain from the experience.
