In a ATEP staff meeting with our department chair, we recently
discussed the tying of clinical supervisory responsibility to credit
hours. I seems to be tied into the courses titled Practicum, Clinical
Education to Clinical Experiences. This raises the question as to who
is really responsible for the clinical supervision of the athletic
training students. By that tuition and paper trail, it would be the
educators who teach those classes who are actually getting paid for
the students' clinical education supervision. This is an interesting
contrast to actual practice. How does your ATEP provide reimbursement to
clinical instructor? How do you generate and disperse the necessary funds?
It seems to me that while the cry from ATEPs have been the
fear of exploitation of the athletic training students, an
un-addressed issue is the ATEP's access to the patients in the
athletics programs, those health care facilities, and the ATCs and
other professionals without compensation. How are ATEPs addressing this issue?
