Entry-Level Master's AT Program (University of Findlay)

The University of Findlay would like to introduce its new
CAATE accredited Entry-Level Master of Athletic
Training program.  This is one of 2 such programs
in the mid-western United States and one of 22 in the
world. Findlay is located in northwest Ohio, about 45
miles south of Toledo and 100 miles north of Dayton.

Accreditation Status.  This program is nationally
accredited with the Commission on Accreditation of
Athletic Training Education (CAATE). Our AT program
has a 100% first time pass rate on the national BOC
certification exam.

Entry-level Program.  This means students in this AT
program would enter the Professional Phase with no or
minimal  knowledge and experience in athletic training.
After graduating from this program, students would meet
all the requirements to sit for the BOC certification exam.
With this national BOC certification (i.e., ATC), graduates
can practice athletic training.  Having a 2-year professional
program, students can choose from two program options:

Option ONE: 3+2 year Program (5 years total). This
program is for entering freshman, transfer student, or student
who changes majors in his/her undergraduate degree. The
first 3 years of this program are classified as "Pre-Professional"
phase, followed by the 2-year "Professional" phase of the
Athletic Training program. Students in this option will receive
a Bachelor of Science degree in Strength and Conditioning;
or another major of their choice; and a Master of Athletic
Training (MAT) degree.

Option TWO: 2-year Program. This 2-year program is
intended for college graduates (who hold a Bachelor's degree)
who may want to change careers, athletes who didn't have
time during their undergraduate years to major in athletic
training, and international students who want a career in
athletic training. This program is identical to the last 2 years
of Option ONE above, which is the Professional Phase.

Admission into the Professional Phase & Grad School
Admission criteria and application materials are available
on the AT program’s website or by request to the
Program Director.  ALL pre-requisite courses
must be completed before the AT program begins.
(The $25 fee is paid to the Athletic Training Ed. Program)
All applicants must apply to BOTH of the following:

  1. Admission to the University (online application - do ONLY one below)
  a. Graduate Student Admissions (U.S. student)
http://www.findlay.edu/admissions/info/graduateandspecialprograms/howto/applynow/graduateapplication.htm
  b. International Graduate Student Admissions (non-English speaking student)
http://www.findlay.edu/admissions/info/international/admissioninformation/onlinegraduateapplication.htm
  (International Office:
http://www.findlay.edu/admissions/info/international/default.htm )

  2. Athletic Training Program (electronic copies only) - all applicants must complete these.

Routes to Admission into the MAT Program:
(1) Direct Admission - for qualified high school students
only; (2) Early Admission, December 1 - for qualified
undergrad students or students who have completed
their Bachelor's degree; or (3) Regular Admission,
February 1 or asap - for those applicants not meeting the
other 2 routes.  Descriptions of these routes are available on
the AT program website.  We will continue to review
applications until we've met our maximum of 16 students,
even if this exceeds the previously indicated deadlines.

IMPORTANT Note: If any prospective student has not
completed some of the admission requirements by the AT
Program's Start Date, please contact Dr. Fuller to discuss
your options. Students must complete all "college" pre-
requisite courses before the AT Program begins in
early July.
The  selection process for entry into this
program is identical for  either program OPTION. All
students are treated equally - regardless of which program
and which university they attend or graduated from (unless
they are Direct Admit, which is few).

Clinical Education Experience: Our clinical education involves
hands-on application of skills within a variety of sports with
the 23 intercollegiate sports at the University of Findlay;
plus, high schools, physical therapy clinics, doctors' offices,
and others. As part of the AT program, students obtain 880-
1,300 clinical education hours of practical experience while
directly supervised by a BOC certified athletic trainer. I've
provided a sample clinical rotation for 2 year on the link below:
