Colleagues,
It is my belief that a revitalization of a grass roots effort at the high school level is needed with the hope of fostering fulltime athletic training positions. This effort could prove invaluable in our profession as a whole. Not only is this a relatively untapped job market with a potential to provide l surplus of jobs, it would educate high school students regarding athletic training services and the role of a certified/licensed athletic trainer. This education would impact a future generation as they become adults and even parents. A significant bi-product from this education is when it comes time for the restoration of orthopedic injuries as an adult they may seek out an athletic trainer to provide those services. This would support the clinical environment. In addition, educated parents will most likely continued to support athletic training services at the interscholastic level and beyond. It is my hope that the profession of athletic training can again see this as a grand opportunity for growth.
Sincerely,
Phil Ford
