I agree with your comments and would like to add another consideration;
less than 7% of matriculating AT undergraduates pursue graduate level
education in athletic training. That is, attend an institution that
offers a program of study specific to our discipline.

This is not the case in the most common academic programs found in
allied health profession (Health Sciences) colleges; for example, Speech
Language pathology, Occupational Therapy, and Physical Therapy. I find
this statistic alarming.
