I think we all need to consider one thing here. Only 8-9% of all FT
placements in athletic training are in the collegiate setting. Our job
as educators is to have a finished product that is employable. Well
over 70% of the placements are either in clinics, clinic-outreach to
secondary schools, or in secondary schools. The time is past for us to
be training students exclusively or mainly for the collegiate setting.
When, and if, that setting has the jobs available that the high
schools and clinics do, then we will again be more responsive to the
hours and working conditions of that setting.
