Being at the convention last week, I notice that many people aren't applying for
the jobs as have been in past years which made wonder about ATEP. Athletic
Training education is a good thing and necessary for our profession, but maybe
we need to look at the process more or what we need to know. Students now have
to learn alot more than in the last 10 years, but has that extra education
correlated to increase pay in the job market or increase in jobs? I know in the
collegiate setting more and more is being demanded of athletic trainers now due
to all the increased off-season practices and skills session in athletics. I
don't know how many athletic trainers coming into the profession now are willing
to make sacrifices of long hours and low pay giving all the time and effort put
into a athletic training degree. We all know that education is supposed to
enable people to increase their monitary value and quality of life. So, here's
my primary question, Are we effectively giving students what they need to be
athletic trainers or just teaching them things they may not use? Please give
feedback to this listserv.
