Mary, Paul, et al.
The Education Council Executive Committee, The Entry-Level Education Committee,
and the JRC-AT realize that the educational cup is about to - or in some cases
has - runnith over, especially in programs that incorporate the minimum 2-years
of clinical experience. Dr. Frank Walters is Chairing a committee that will
explore options on how to alleviate this congestion. As Mary pointed out, we
may see a core of the AT content taught at the entry-level and put an increased
reliance on accredited AT master's degree programs to focus on specific areas.
Please realize that many AT education programs have missions that vary from
that of the NATA. While the NATA's mission focuses on "... athletes and others
involved in physical activity," many AT programs still focus on the
"traditional" athletic setting.
Best Wishes,
Chad Starkey, PhD, ATC
Chair, NATA Education Council
