CPR instruction

If you receive this multiple times, I apologize,
I keep getting error messages.

Hello everyone. Are there any accredited
programs that rely on the American Red Cross for
the initial instruction of CPR? A proposal has
been made to our dept. suggesting that majors
that require CPR instruction and certification do
so by way of the ARC. That is, require a CPR
certification for admission into the program or
as a prerequisite for a course (depending on the
major). I have looked at the accreditation
standards and I can't see anything that would
preclude requiring a CPR certification as part of
the admission process. We do however realize
that we would have to continue, as we have always
done, to review and re-evaluate students just
like we do with all other skills, we just would
not be giving out or renewing ARC cards on
campus. My main interest at this point is to
find out if there is a precedent, and if so, I
would like to get feedback from those program
directors who no longer provide ARC CPR cards on
campus: How has it worked?, problems? unintended
consequences? etc. Your comments are greatly appreciated.

I personally don't see a problem with requiring it (CPR certification) as a requirement to get into a program. I do see a problem with just requiring ARC....
