Now that there are 300+ entry-level AT programs out there, we may
start to see more students transfer from one CAAHEP accredited AT
program to another. To be in compliant with CAAHEP accreditation
requirements, what exactly can you accept and/or allow these
students to "transfer" into our ATEP? Below is a small list of
items.
1. AT courses that contain AT competencies & proficiencies
(i.e., modalities, injury assessment, rehabilitation)
2. Clinical proficiencies that were taught and assessed by an
ACI. (i.e., taping, bracing, injury assessment, modalities,
rehab).
3. Clinical education experiences/hours supervised by an ACI
or CI (i.e., upper & lower extremity, general medical conditions,
equipment intensive).
If you accept these transfer students into your CAAHEP accredited
AT program, do you require them to do anything extra to ensure
that they are at the same knowledge and skill level as your
current AT students? For example, do you give a comprehensive
exam over the courses or skills you are accepting? Do you
require these transfer students to sign a student contract that
clearly explains their situation and expectations upon entering
the professional phase of your ATEP? Lastly, do you have such
policies in your AT Student Handbook or somewhere else to help
protect you and your ATEP? Please reply to the listserv to help
everyone. Thank you.
