RICH: Thank you for sending this. Three suggestions for your next outgoing
mailing to all of your lists ( in fact, you are welcome to forward this ):

1. Quote the text of the letter sent by Ortiz y Pino to the officials,
including Andrew Von Eschenbach, as well as point out the obvious flaws and
corporate pleasantries in Dr. Von Eschenbach's letter, most notably the fact
that they are still "reviewing" the incontrovertible Ramazzini study, re:
aspartame/methanol/formaldehyde/diketopiperazine, and cancer, which FDA has
had actually since February 2006!

2. Encourage them to send their own experiences not only to Dr. Von
Eschenbach, commissioner@..., 301 827-2410, fax 301-341-1600, but also
send a copy to Senator Kennedy, Chairman of Senate Health Committee, and Sen.
Patrick Leahy, Chairman of Senate Judiciary Committee, Washington D.C. 20510,
asking for hearings to be convened in each of those vital committees on the
obvious imperative to rescind the approval by FDA of aspartame as well as its
forced
approval in 1981.

3. Encourage them to write to Speaker of the House Ben Lujan
and President Pro Tempore of the NM Senate, Ben Altamirano [ First Floor, The
Capitol, Santa Fe, NM 87501 ] to encourage and request their strong and clear
support to ban aspartame in New Mexico, in Senator Ortiz y Pino's 2007 bill to
ban aspartame,
as well as to Governor Richardson and Lt. Gov. Diane Denish
( 4th Floor, the Capitol, Santa Fe, NM 87501 )

We need the coordinated cooperation of two legislators, Rep. Debbie Rodella,
an employee of the Los Alamos Laboratories ( debbie.rodella@... ) and
Senator Shannon Robinson ( shannon.robinson@...), particularly as they
are Chairman of House Business and Industry and Senate Corporations
Committee, since this is where the corporations will concentrate their
efforts to stymie and eviscerate the bill.

Senate Public Affairs Committee is another vital committee, where the bill
was tabled in 2006 by a vote of 5-2, largely due to the efforts of the
lobbyists, and partially due to so many of the members continuing to drink
Diet Colas, oblivious to the medical advice and warnings they have received over
the past two years about the neurotoxicity and carcinogenicity of aspartame.

This is going to be absolutely vital, since the aspartame manufacturer,
Ajinomoto, and
the corporate endusers and their front group, Coca Cola, Pepsi Cola, and
Calorie Control Council, and related corporate endusers, like
Altria/Kraft/Philip Morris, have again hired lobbyists and corporate lawyers
to obstruct this bill; they have printed piles of mendacious corporate
propaganda and genocidal apologist lies to flood the legislators with, which
can only be countered by citizens' and victims' letters with the real truth
about what aspartame has actually done to them.

Without these letters, we will lose in New Mexico in 2007.
It's really that straightforward.

Truly, Stephen Fox stephen@...,

formaldehyde from 11% methanol part of aspartame or from red wine
causes same toxicity (hangover) harm: Murray 2006.05.24

Dark wines and liquors, as well as aspartame, provide
similar levels of methanol, above 120 mg daily, for
long-term heavy users, 2 L daily, about 6 cans.

Within hours, methanol is inevitably largely turned into formaldehyde,
and thence largely into formic acid -- the major causes of the dreaded
symptoms of "next morning" hangover.

Fully 11% of aspartame is methanol -- 1,120 mg aspartame
in 2 L diet soda, almost six 12-oz cans, gives 123 mg
methanol (wood alcohol). If 30% of the methanol is turned
into formaldehyde, the amount of formaldehyde, 37 mg,
is 18.5 times the USA EPA limit for daily formaldehyde in
drinking water, 2.0 mg in 2 L average daily drinking water.

Any unsuspected source of methanol, which the body always quickly
and largely turns into formaldehyde and then formic acid, must be
monitored, especially for high responsibility occupations, often with
night shifts, such as pilots and nuclear reactor operators.
