Letter to the Editor: React to aspartame?
No wonder, its methanol becomes formaldehyde...

Just part of the notorious toxicity of aspartame is from its 11% methanol
fraction, always fully and freely released into the body. Many drink 6 cans
a day diet soda-- that's two quarts, giving 123 mg methanol (wood alcohol ),
which the body always quickly turns into formaldehyde, easily 18 times the
1999 EPA safety limit for formaldehyde in drinking water.
Formaldehyde causes cancers in people. The prestigious Ramazzini Foundation
in Italy announced August 14 that they found that lymphomas and leukaemias
were caused in 1500 rats fed various doses of aspartame for two years --
corresponding to the same levels used by people. Their two earlier studies
proved the same for methanol and for formaldehyde. This is smoking gun
evidence.
As a genotoxin par excellence, formaldehyde is bound to interfere with
fertility and pregnancy, causing spontaneous abortions and birth defects.
As a potent neurotoxin, formaldehyde causes anxiety, confusion, irritability,
restlessness, insomnia, poor memory, vertigo, seizures, and addiction.
Twice as much methanol as in diet soda is an impurity in dark wines and
liquors -- its conversion to formaldehyde is the main cause of the infamous
"morning after" hangover: headache, nausea, weakness, aching body, dizziness,
blurry vision, poor memory, irritability, depression,
fatigue, red skin, and thirst.
So, if you want to describe aspartame disease in one word,
just say, "Hangover".
However, about a quarter to a half of those who get inebriated do not get
hangovers, which shows huge individual variation in susceptibility to
formaldehyde.
Also, folic acid is an antidote that helps the body eliminate formaldehyde.
Check it out yourself. Look at what's going on with the folks you know who
are always holding a Diet Coke or a Diet Pepsi. If it's you, then just
switch to flavored water or tea with a bit of sugar. Most heavy users will
notice big improvements within two weeks of switching -- although some will
have an uncomforable week of withdrawal symptoms.
