We won't agree on diabetic diets (nutrition and carbs). It is all DEGREES. To what degree the pancreas has ceased or interrupted functioning.
Many foods, and yes this includes carbs, in more raw and natural diets are beneficial -- again, depending on the DEGREE of the pancreas (insulin) action.
To lump any one food group is just like Doctors telling us it is OK to drink the **diet** poisons on the market.
Each body is different and each person must learn to listen to their body -- the sooner we all do, the sooner we all have an ***Opportunity*** to help ourselves and our health.
Things can and do get better, but not without effort and certainly not by doing nothing.
Bill.

Banana and being a diabetic. That alone is horrible for the body.
Go to the forum I mentioned and ask questions there.
He may not have been gaining before and I doubt this has anything to do with quitting aspartame.
They have diabetics there and can tell you how to have a better diet.
No fruit at all for sure. NO breads and or pastas. Vegies are fine.
Meds can mess up stuff too.

The only thing he has changed is removing aspartame from his diet ... he is pretty good at monitoring his body ... this is what is so frustrating, cause he hasn't changed his eating habits, low sugar intake, but he is gaining weight fairly quickly .... I told him we can go to his doctor ... some doctors laugh at the very fact that aspartame is a problem, and some actually recommend these diet drinks are Okay for Diabetics....Well, I am going to encourage him to drink more water...and get more raw vegetables for him to snack on during the day...He's sort of limited himself to the banana, apple, and orange, but I don't think that is enough. Thanx for your advice.

Medicine is far from an exact science, and any good doctor will tell you that straight up -- those that tell you they know the answer, BE AFRAID!

I have fibromyalgia myself, and have noticed improvements already ... we both noticed the fog lift right away ... my pain level has improved 50% already. Maybe someone knows why he is gaining weight, as I cannot find anything on the net about "gaining weight" after removing aspertame.
