The following info is provided to keep families up to date on changes in the Community Alternatives Program (CAP).
New Waiver Slots Allocated
300 new slots were made available this week. They are allocated per LME based on population counts and LME requests
You should contact your LME (DD Director) as well as your case manager to request assignment of a slot.
If you do not have a case manager, contact your regional Autism Society of North Carolina Parent Advocate for more info. To locate the Society Advocate who serves your county, click here for a staff listing with phone numbers.

Tiered Waiver Progress
The Current Medicaid waiver expires in October. The Division of Mental Health/Developmental Disabilities/Substance Abuse Services (MH/DD/SAS) is under a legislative mandate to implement a Tiered Waiver system. The current proposal is for 4 tiers.
Public Input Sessions, sponsored by the Division of MHDDSAS and DMA are scheduled to occur as indicated below (save the date) in regards to the Tiered waivers:
- May 6, 2008 at Cherry Hospital Therapeutic Center Auditorium, 201 Stevens Mill Road, Goldsboro, NC. Two repeating sessions (same information provided at both sessions). The first session is from 11a.m. to 1 p.m.; the second session is from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
- May 16, 2008 at Broughton Hospital located at 1000 South Sterling St., Morganton, NC. Two repeating sessions (same information provided at both sessions). The first session is from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.; the second session is from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
- May 20, 2008 at Center Point LME Auditorium located at Behavioral Health Plaza, 725 N. Highland Ave Winston Salem, NC. There will be two repeating sessions (same information provided at both sessions). The first session is from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.; the second session is from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
