What is Music Therapy (MT)?
MT addresses developmental goals within the context of music
activities (singing, movement, instrument playing)
MT is a time- and cost- effective addressing multiple developmental,
sensory and relational goals simultaneously . . . think of it as
occupational therapy / physical therapy / speech therapy / social
skills all rolled into one!
MT provides a sensory-rich environment in which children can
experience joy and success while learning important developmental
skills.
Okay...then what is Neurologic Music Therapy (NMT)?
NMT is an advanced level training for music therapists.
NMT uses standardized treatment techniques based on neuroscience
research of music and the brain.
Accepted and endorsed by the World Federation of Neuro-Rehabilitation
NMT is defined as: "the therapeutic application of music to
cognitive, sensory, and motor dysfunctions due to neurologic disease
of the human nervous system," (Thaut, 1999).
