Cornbread and Buttermilk Bars

3 cups base
3 tbsp corn meal
3 tbsp buttermilk

Oats n Honey

3 cups base
3 ozs beeswax
3 tbsp honey
3 tbsp oats

Mango Moisturizer

4 cups base
1/4-cup coconut oil
? cup almond oil
2 tbsp mango fragrance

Chocolate Chip Cookies

5 cups base
1 cup white base
3 tbsp cocoa
4 tbsp chocolate fragrance
Melt ? cup white base with the clear base and add 3 tbsp fragrance and 1 tbsp
cocoa to get a nice even brown color. Mix the rest of cocoa and fragrance in the
remaining white base to make a dark chocolate looking soap. Grab a round PVC
Pipe 3" diameter, put 4 layers of saran wrap around the bottom secured with a
rubber band. Sit in sand to seal it well. Pour your light brown base into the
pipe, cut your dark brown base into chunks and drop them in. When you unmold and
cut into slices they will look and smell like chocolate chip cookies.

Cake of Soap

Lots of Base
2 cups white base
Various colorants and fragrances
1 gallon Ice Cream round plastic tub
Melt some soap, color and fragrance of choice and pour into tub. Let cool then
do another layer. Continue to do this until the tub is half filled with soap.
Pop it into your freezer till good and frozen. Once frozen get some cooled
melted white base and dribble onto the cake. Let it cool, and then dribble some
more until it looks like melted wax has dripped down the sides. Cut into slices
and you have a best seller!

Cup of Coffee (good for onion odors on hands)

3 cups base
2 tbsp hot water
4 tbsp instant coffee
Melt the coffee in the hot water so you have a thick coffee paste. Add to melted
soap and stir until completely dissolved.

Candy Soap

3 cups white base
2 tbsp peppermint fragrance
7 drops red food coloring
Take half your base and set aside. The other half add food coloring and 1 tbsp
fragrance. Let cool then cut into chunks. Melt the white base and add rest of
fragrance. Pour into 1" round PVC pipe (See instructions above for chocolate
chip cookies) and drop the red pieces into it once it's cooled a bit. When cut
will look like the little candies you can get around Christmas time. Wrap in
saran wrap like candies are wrapped and package it in a candy dish. Great
seller!

Loofah Soap (great for grease)

Take a loofah sponge and place in a round mold. Fill with the coffee soap recipe
above and once cool slice into bars. The coffee gets rid of grease smells while
the loofah gets rid of the grease.

Iced tea

Use a round mold for this one as well; it'll look like a cup of iced tea. Melt
some clear soap base and pour into ice cube trays for making the ice cubes Brew
a strong batch of tea by boiling 4 tea bags with ? cup of water. Boil this brew
down until it is only 1/8 a cup of liquid. Have 2 PVC pipes where one is
slightly smaller than the other about 4 inches high. Melt 3 cups of base and add
the tea to it and pour into smaller pipe. When it has cooled a bit add your ice
chunks. They will float to the bottom but that's ok. In the larger pipe pour
about ? inch of clear base and let it harden up. When the soap has set up in the
small pipe, pop it out and turn it over so the ice cubes are on the top now.
Insert it into the larger pipe centered and pour cooled off clear base just to
the top of it. When you unmold it will look like a glass of tea. You can even
add a dried lemon slice for decoration.

Well isn't that lovely! We have become spam targets here at the
club so for now I am going to switch the format so that every
message must be approved by me before it is posted in the club.
This should hopefully save us all from these ever so colorful emails.

Jen....yes, noticed this. How are you? Have been
thought of you and your business etc. How about
a little update?
I've been teaching one class in the spring and
was hoping for more in fall...due to cutbacks
they're just waiting for fall enrollment before
assaigning more to me.

Hi. I am wondering- for these recipes, the "x" cups of base, is that
after it is melted?? You may think this is a silly question, and one
never knows?! I cut my M&P into very small chucks to melt it, hoping
this makes it easier to melt. Thanks for the recipes! ;-) Rose

Hey now Pen that isn't entirely true . . . as I recall we all got
some pretty colorful invitations and such! :0)

What has everybody been up to lately?

I have finished my AT course through Mount Royal College here and I
am now officially a Certified Aromatherapist. I will continue my
studies again in the fall. I have also been doing a lot of research
on fibromyalgia and am currently attempting to have my article
published in the Aromatherapy Today magazine.

I can't wait to hear what everyone else has been up to.

Talk to you all soon.

Jen,
Great to hear from you.
I've started up at a gym...three months ago and have grown real
obvious muscles! Yes! Discovered I'm some kind of genetic throwback
even though I only weigh 102.
Love the weight training. Hate the cardio machines..
Started taking kung fu in July...just love it. My teacher is from China and
is very encouraging. Also just began tai chi with him too...can't
say I *love* tai chi yet (don't get to kick or punch anything) but
I am staying open minded to see how this incorporates into everything
else. I'm look athletic now! All these things are so new that
they are not integrated into a whole me yet.

Congratulations on being certified! Wowzie...what a wonderful
thing you have worked for and won. I'm very very proud of you...
and with a business and kiddos at home. Well done!

Congrats to you on taking the initiative with getting healthy! I
just started some weights and cardio and I agree, Love the weights,
hate the cardio! I hope I have your determination and can stick
with it. Be proud, you are an inspiration!

This course is through the college here in the city and it exceeds
NAHA & CFA educational standards. It was 290 hours I think,
including writing a research paper (mine was a paper on fibromyalgia
and aromatherapy), an excrutiating Anatomy, Physiology & Pathology
class with the king of all ding-a-lings and a practicum where we ran
a clinic and offered aromatherapy treatments to real clients. My
studies in the fall will be an additional 100 hours with more
practicum time.

Great to hear from you, whatcha been up to??

Take care and be well

Jen,
I dragged myself in gym very reluctantly, Thought the first week would
kill me. I swear earlobes and nipples were sore as was *everything* else...
did only the minimum the first month.

What made me feel much better going in and coming out of the gym was that a
friend
recommended whey protein powder. Friend started taking whey... then
'accidentally' lost 40 lbs over a few months....(she's 78, teaches judo in
Huntsville and
was taking the whey for one of the amino acid. She said she just didn't feel
the need to snack much and wasn't starving at meal time or after teaching.)

I also cut down on carbs.
One reason I'd felt so bad was low
blood sugar and working out with weights and cardio depleted me..I got
depressive and mean after working out and couldn't think clearly either.

When I did a scoop of the whey before going to the gym...I came *out* with
energy feeling fine. Lower carbs, higher protein makes body burn stored fat
for fuel.
If carb intake is normal or high stored fat isn't burned...body just
burns available carbs.. then anything left over is stored as fat. Nasty
cycle I'd been in. Rather accidentally I also cut out wheat because I
stopped bread. Went to Wasa crackers made of rye because they are low
cal and low carb and good...didn't realise the absence of wheat helped me.
I don't count fats.

I *love* the kung fu....I'm learning Forms.......like a long
dance combination but martial arts moves. Forms are the foundation of
kung fu...formal movements...slow graceful moves between sharp striking
and kicking ones. But....doing Forms is very very aerobic....after going
though the sequence twice I'm hot...then with another few minutes I get
sweaty, heart pounding, enough out of breath to say, "***CARDIO*** is
happening here". There are alternatives to the cardio machines. We also
do a self-defence component...then I get to punch and kick...break holds,
tip my teacher on to the mat..all that kicking and punching, using elbows
is also cardio. Frankly, working out with my teacher, Ming, is so much
fun than a machine...see what is available in your area in martial arts
that appeals to you. There are five kinds of tai chi...the one we always
see in the movies is the Yang form....the slowest smoothest kind but there
are faster and more interesting kinds. I'm going to ask to learn one of
those when I get this first one learnt. tai chi is another class I've just
started...slow,
measured and not cardio...but is supposed to be good for many things.

I'm trying to get used to the elliptical trainer. (ugh!). At least on
the days without martial arts classes.

Jen, I've never been an inspiration...but it's nice. thank you.
I'm still full of endorphins four hours after class...LOL...too much
energy and no dancing.

Congratulations again on the aromatherapy course, certification and
all those classes. Wow....no wonder we haven't heard from you....
You've been busy. You must feel wonderful to have completed all that.

Jen,
If you have info to share on Fibroand I have a dear friend who
has it and loves to use EOs...but I've never known enough to
advise her on that.
So if you're willing to share your research I know someone whose
life and hopes could be improved by same.

Hi! I'd like to get going on some infusions. I've got lots of
flowers and herbs to use.

Question is: Should I use dry or fresh? Then depending on dry or
fresh ... should I boil? or let it sit someplace warm for a week?
Will it spoil?

As I've mentioned before this is new to me. I've already learned
from my mistakes working on the citrus stuff. I'd rather do it right
than spoil it and learn something.

Thanks,

Claudette

Please send me recommendations via email of your favorite EO

Hi everyone!

What happened in here? There seemed to be alot of commotion a
little while back and I thought this group was gonna get rolling
again. Where is everyone? Whatcha all been up to? Any cool AT
stuff you wanna share?

For those of you who were interested in my paper for school last
year about Fibromyalgia and AT, here is the link.

http://www.scentsability.com/FibromyalgiaAromatherapyPaper.htm

An update about this client, her anti depressants are way down (75
mg), she very rarely uses ibuprofen (mainly for weather related
migraines) and she is doing really well. In fact if you didn't know
before that she had FMS, you certainly wouldn't be able to tell now.

Anyways, I am off to study muscles, bones and bony landmarks for my
final at the end of the month.

Hope everyone is well and I miss you all!!!

Hi everyone,

Greetings from Singapore. There seem to be an interesting discussion
going on quite some time ago. It looked pretty warm in here. I am
glad that I am able to join the group.

I am a keen believer of aromatherapy. I have been using green tea
essential oil as an anti cancer as well as a losing weight agent. My
dad uses thyme and chypre essential oil for his bronchitis after
years of heavy smoking. Recently, I introduced eucalyptus to my
cousin who has asthma. Now, his condition is so much better.

Anyone has their own personal experiences to share? Maybe with
regards to the type of essential oils they had previously tried?
Awaiting some positive response.

Cheers,
Jasmine

Hi Suz,

No the managers did not quit but unfortunately life
has totally consumed both of them. I am one of the
owners of the list and I am around kinda.

So whats up? Where are you from, what do you want to
learn, what is your aromatherapy experience?

Welcome to the club!

Jen

Hi everyone, I would like to introduce myself to you all. First of
all, I am a mother of four children (3 girls and 1 boy) and I live
in Australia (I actually do have kangaroos in my back yard, and blue
tongue lizards that pinch the cat's food). I love aromatherapy, and
its been a constant factor in my life for about 17 years. I am a
beauty therapist (aesthetician) by trade and have been so for 12
years. I used to own/run a beauty salon up until a few years ago
when I decided to have my fourth child. As you can imagine or
already know, if you have a tribe of kids, aromatherapy comes in
handy for all sorts of reasons :-)
I have about 50 different oils, but I'm familiar with a lot more-it
alls comes down to money I guess. I have just recently been offered
a position with a national magazine here in Oz as the regular
aromatherapy columnist, and of course I jumped at the opportunity.
It came about as a stroke of extremley good luck, fate or
circumstances were just right and I just happened to contact them
with an article submission just at the time they lost their regular
columnist, so they asked me! I have also recently published my first
book on aromatherapy, and I am about to have it reviewed by the mag
that asked me to write for them, plus a feature article and the
aromatherapy regular column, so the next few months are going to get
quite interesting for me. Apart from that, most of the time I'm
stuck here in a small town-housebound would be correct. I am about
an hours drive away from the city, and the price of petrol and all
that sort of makes it hard to actually leave (my car is a V8), so I
turned to writing as a way of stopping myself from going crazy with
boredom (plus I was fed up with reading the same information in
books and mags about aromatherapy from different writers/authors).
My partner works away from home for up to six weeks at a
time, and I have limited contact with people so joining a discussion
group for me will give me an opportunity to blether and have some
adult conversation :-) Can someone please tell me how to submit a
web site too? I have one that I just recently completed since in the
magazine they print a contra-advertisement, and I wanted the readers
to be able to have some more info and a contact source.
Thank you for taking the time to read my introduction, I look
forward to getting to know you all.
