Hi Vicki,
I just checked with Tara. She takes 2 mcg's of Rocaltrol pills(4 .5mcg. a day)
but no oral calcium any more. This keeps her calcium levels in the 9's. But her
daily Cortef dose is now 40 mgs which is why the Rocaltrol is so high. She does
have magnesium issues also and takes magnesium daily but dosage is dependent on
most recent blood work.
Has Ryan's magnesium level been checked recently?
Tara also has calcification of the kidneys from too much Vit. D and diarrhea. So
I agree medications have to be carefully watched. I wish Tara had had more
frequent 24 hour urine tests to monitor hr kidneys.
Good luck to Ryan.
Best wishes,
Linda

that he is 26. Ryan's endo also tells him to take two 500-600mg of calcium at a
time when I thought you could only absorb 500mg at a time. His calcium levels
always stays on the low side also and I believe it is carbonate. He took citrate
before and his endo told him to take caltrate w/o vit D. which was hard to find.
We will get it all sorted out hopefully very soon.

is where my endo wants it - she says that a little bit below normal levels is
the newest treatment protocol for hypoparathyroidism. So Ionized calcium normal
is 4.5-5.5 as normal and mine is at 4.3 and that is where she wants it. Normal
blood calcium is 8.5-10.0 and mine runs 8.1-8.2 - again where she wants it. All
my DEXA scans look great and bone density looks good.

citrate? The citrate form of calcium is better absorbed and easier on the GI
tract. A goodbrand is Citracal.

double dose of calcitriol(4 -.25 per day) plus 4000-6000 mg of calcium. I am
very nervous about him absorbing too much calcium. Any thoughts?
