Hi Susan,
I’m not sure about most of your questions, but I do know
that James (my husband) has the flu vaccine every year since he can remember
and has no problems with it.
Hope you find out the answers to your other questions
Liz

Subject: [apeced] Flu vaccine
Hi All -
Hope you all are doing well and in good health. I have a two part
question that I was hoping I could get some advice on. My son, Joseph
is now two years old and does not have any endocrine issues requiring
supplementation (Ie CA or cortisol) at this time yet he has nail
dystrophy and candidiasis issues related to APECED. Last year he got
the flu shot yet still got the flu. This year I was thinking that I
will not give him a flu vaccine. Last year when I did he had a body
rash for 6 months. It may have just been a symptom of APECED and not a
reaction to the flu vaccine but I am still hesitant. What is the
overall advice on vaccines for children with APECED?
Also we are having a baby girl in December. We do not know at this
point if she has APECED. We will get her tested after she is born but
until then would you advise holding off on ony vaccinations? I believe
they give babies their first vaccination at the hospital and perhaps if
it is not advisable for APECED patients to vaccinate so early I will
wait. Yet I am not certain what they reccomend for APECED patients.
Any help you can offer will be greatly appreciated. Take good care.
Susan
