Hi Everyone,

I am attaching an interesting article describing a new development in APECED
research. The authors confirm that B-cells are involved in the onset of
disease. My understanding of the science on this is very limited, but to date
no one has been sure if B cells are involved. The study also reports that
Rituximab, a drug commonly used to treat lymphoma, was used on mice with APECED
with success. My understanding is that Rituximab has not yet been studied on
people with APECED, but was wondering if any of you had heard of anyone trying
it. Rituximab is an immunosuppressant, but works differently than Imuran or
Cellcept (MMF).

This research is exciting, as it will likely lead to research on how drugs that
affect B cells, like Rituxamed, work on people with APECED. You may want to
share this article with your doctors to help them understand the disease.

On another bright note, my daughter Julia started junior kindergarten last week.
She is loving it and we are so pleased that she has been able to take this
wonderful step. Just a year ago Julia was still in the ICU with grave lung
problems. I hope that this September has brought some new beginnings for all of
you.

Jennifer

Thanks, Jennifer, for updating us on this important piece of research. Rituximab, or Rituxan as it is known here in the U.S., has had positive effect for...
