Hi Amy,
I'm Julia (27 year old with APS type 1) And Yes, I have experienced
candidiasis in my esophagus and stomach. I first experienced aruond
the time I was diagnosed with pernicious anemia. I know see a
gastrointestinal doctor who helps me to manage this intermittant
problem.
The symptoms I had were: Burning upon eating most things - broth and
saltines was my diet for a while until i could get treatment. I didn't
have any breathing problems - just burning upon and after eating and
cramps in my stomach (not lower abdomen, but upper stomach near my
sternum).
My treatment was simple and VERY effective. My GI doctor prescribed
diflucan pills (the oral medication for yeast infections) - I had a 30
day prescription and it helped relieve symptoms within 7 days. She was
able to confirm the candidiasis in my esophagus by an EGD (or a scope
of my esophagus and stomach)
I currently haven't had this for about 2-3 years - but I know what it
is when I get it becuase I used to get it every 3 months or so. My GI
doctor wrote refills on my diflucan prescription and I would take them
when I felt i had a recurrance. One thing to note though, Diflucan
shouldn't be taken on a regular basis long term (i believe it can be
bad for the liver if you take it every day for many years)
Let me know if you have any questions
Julia
