Hi! My name is Deb.
My 12 year old son has a form of "low level- highly functioning"
Autism known as Aspergers syndrome.
One of the odd effects of Aspergers, is that some people with it lack
or have a reduced sence of smell, taste or hearing- due to the way
they are Neurologically "over-wired".
These people cant block-out or filter sounds, visual or other
sensory input the way we do- so their brain dissconnects one of the
other senses early in life to protect itself from this bombardment of
stimuli.
With all the info I have from the Autism specialists, the Medical
Doctors still do not believe me that he has a perfectly normal sence
of taste- just no sence of smell... and as yet refuse to even try to
help. I was also told that it is possible that if he WERE to get a
sence of smell- a different sence may be lost- OR he may get so
overloaded that he may completely "shut down" and become fully
autistic!
Anyone else experiencing other neural problems with their anosmia??
Have any other info that might help??
Need Aspergers info??
Please write!
