First I want to thank those people that have responded w/ a "me, too" or "way
to go!!" to me privately. I am always pleased when someone can understand my
babbling!!!!
I was very confused a long time ago by Linda Prince's very early posts. I,
too, thought she was in denial and sent her a private note showing the
progression of Rebecca's delays: how she seemed to be at the head of the
class when she was 1 yr old, but by the time she and her mates graduated from
early intervention, at 3 years old, she was the only one not walking, not
talking, not using 2 signs together (like, more and please....) I noticed
Linda's child was very young, and felt that she would begin to notice these
things, too, and we would be here to support her. But, I believe it was
Hiekki (spelling?) pointed out that if her son had mosaic, and only 7 out of
107 cells were affected, then he would be a very high functioning angel,
indeed.
THIS is something I want to get out of this list. Facts, genetics, and yes,
Linda, does this drug work for your child because is does/does not work for
us... Each child is different, and you should understand that even more than
us, your child sounds unique. I was very excited to hear about such a child
and was looking forward to learning from him and your experiences together.
Please do not get hung up on a prejudice--you are anti-drugs, even prescribed
drugs, that is your right. It is not your right to assume that your feelings
on the subject are the only correct feelings. I hate for my child to be on
drugs---they all make her stay up all night and have a BYO (fill in drug,
like septra or augmenten) party. All night long, shaking and singing and
getting down.... But when her sinuses run a certain shade of green, I feel I
have to give in and do the lesser of 2 evils....this is MY opinion. You
must do for your child. But don't alienate yourself from this group in the
meantime, thinking that we all have to think the way you do. We need to hear
all kinds of opinions and about all kinds of AS kids....
