I've been thru a terrible ordeal. Newly married, I was pregnant with
my 1st baby early June of 1999, found out when I was 5 1/2 months my
baby boy has servere Spinabifida. I didn't start folic acid till I
was pregnant, didn't know you have to start before. Baby had "water
on the brain" along with many many other problems. Doctor insisted I
have a termination. I had to wait another month for a specialist,
who was on vacation, to come back to prefrom the termination cause I
was too far along. so I underwent a horrific termination at 6 1/2
months. then after motnhs of reassurance by my doctor this is a
fluke and won't happen again. I got pregnant in April of 2001, was
always sick as well, finally went to crucial ultrasound in Aug I was
little over 4 months, I was in complete shock when the technician
left the ultrasound room and the next thing I know my Doctor, who was
secretly called on another phone, came running into tell me this baby
(boy) was NOT compatible with life and had anencephaly. this time I
had been experiencing some pain in my uterus, and it turned out the
back of my baby's incomplete skull was "cutting" into my uterus. I
underwent an emergency termination (next Day), with a few stitches in
uterus lining Doctor said my uetris will be ok. well girls where do
I go from here? I went to 3 specialists they all told me that they
were both "fluke" occurances, chromosomes testing on both fetuses
were surprisingly normal, even though the babys weren't normal. not
genetic defects. I don't have anything like this inmy family ,
except for 1 cousin with autism. and neither does my husband. I am
now 32 and he is 37. They say this doesn't happen twice, but I've
been thru a "Nightmare", I got the courage to try again , since the
doc said I am still very young, I have been trying to get preggy
since last sept. I was on a higher dosage of folic acid my 2nd
pregnancy by the way and took this folic acid for a whole year before
even getting pregnant the 2nd time. I just had a "dye" test HSG
where they xray your uterus, 10days ago to see what the delay is in
getting pregnant (last times got pregnant within 2 months). and the
tubes are fine but they found excessive scar tissue due to the 2
second trimster terminations. I also have a fibroid, which the
doctor is not going to bother with now. and a "nip here and tuck
there" (hysteroscopy) and doc says I should be as good as new. I
went to several specialists on my own, and my doctor sent me to a few
as well. all opinions are the same: I am normal, chromos are
normal, these are "flukes" and at worse case senario I have only a
25% chance of this happening again. I keep having the same nightmare
over and over again about the ultra sound being bad again. I wake up
scared. by morning things don't seem too bad, I feel I can try
again. what happened to me doesn't mean this will happen to you, my
own doctor has been good, and "on top" of things, she is shocked
herself. all factors indicate I should try again. Just answer two
questions "why me"? and "if anyone knows of this happening 3 times"?
