Hi
I have been a member of this group for almost sixth months now.
Last July I found out that my baby had anencephaly. As you all know
most doctors recomend terminating the pregnancy. I honor everyones
decision on this matter and woll not condem anyone for anything they
choose to do. But after careful consideration my husband and I
decided it would be in everyones best iterest if we terminated the
pregnancy. This would be a lot harder than we thought however. My
husband is in the navy and we use the medical insurance provided by
the government called Tri-care and they specificaly do not cover
abortions (gosh I hate that word) even if the child has
anencephaly. After much termoil and going all the up the chain of
command via our insurance we got an offer form the Northwest womens
law center-they offered to take our case pro bono. We won. But
that was just the beggining the declaration was only for me. So
ever since they won on my behalf in august they have been fighting
to get the law declared unconstitional-and that would benefit
everyone. Since the case involved the military it was the united
states government that my lawyers were going up against. Well I
just got the word tonight and they won-the law is declared
unconstitional. So women like me won't have to fight to make a
personal decsion. This dose not mean that I am pro choice. I am
pro life. But I also realized that carring the baby inside me could
cause great risk to me and my body and she would never live. I
would die for my baby if I could of but the situation was totaly
hopelss. -aleah
