Victoria Jane -
You can have your daughter talk with her doctor and make sure she is
taking extra folic acid (most women seem to have it increased to 4
milligrams - there is usually 1 mg in the prenatal vitamin and then 3 to
4 extra milligrams are prescribed by a doctor).
Regarding the tests, I can only speak from my experience - after my baby
with anencephaly, I became pregnant again and was given an ultrasound at
11 or 12 weeks (I think it was called a Level II or a
nuchal-translucency ultrasound) - they were able to see the intact head
at that point, which ruled out anencephaly.
I will pray for you, your daughter and family - I hope all goes well
with this pregnancy.
