Re: [anencephaly] folic acid level

Ronissa,

Sounds like good news.  One thing I would ask the doctor is which test he used for determining your folic acid levels.  I've heard there are two different tests, and that one tests short term absorption, and the other long term (meaning the length of time the folic acid is staying in the cells)  I will be pursuing these different tests in a month or soon, and am not an expert on the subject, but I thought I'd mention it since I've read about the different tests.

Hi,

I went to my doctor and requested that my folic level be measured.  The results that came back is greater than 20.  My doctor said that normal is greater than 3 and he feels like my body is metabolizing the 4mg of folic I have been taking a day.  Anyone have feedback or experience on this issue???

thanks

Subject: [anencephaly] folic acid problem

I have experimented on and off the folic acid. When I am off the folic acid the nausea is not as bad as when I'm on the folic acid. I don't think I'll be able to do this six months straight. Add morning sickness to the equation, and I don't think I'll be able to keep food down. I just wanted to know if it's just me. ------------------------ Yahoo! I'm sorry about the nausea. I've never heard of being nauseous from folic acid, but everybody's system is different. Have you tried a methyfolate? You could...
