So sorry to hear about your baby's anencephaly. We found out our baby had anencephaly Sept 2001 after an abnormal afp followed by us showed anencephaly. Actually it was sept 11 so nyc was in an uproar and I'm in NJ. We had tried for 9 months to get pg and I was devastated. It was the hardest thing I ever went though. I was 28 and it was my first pg. we terminated a week later. I cried more than ever in my whole life. I remember wondering if the hurting in my heart would ever stop. I was 18 weeks 3 days when we terminated. I started right away on folic acid (4mg) . We had genetic testing done and found out the baby had no other problems and it was a girl. We gave her a name, Mariah after an angel figure my husband had bough me. I found online support and books helped. 3 months later I got pg again and went on to have a healthy boy and 20 months later had another healthy boy. I often think of the what ifs, if I had gone to term and gotten to hold my baby but I wouldn't have my son. I also went on bedrest with my son at 20 weeks for a short cervix which they might not have found if I didn't have a lwevel 2 us. Though, I really would love to have them both. if you have any other questions, please feel free to ask.
