Thank you.  Just as a FYI - this is not the only "group" that these messages has been appearing.  I have gotten similar msgs on other groups and because nothing was done and the msgs kept coming, I left those groups.

Thank you for moderating this wonderful site.

Jacqueline,
If you have the opportunity, travel to Thailand and learn it. I
attended class with a gal a couple of weeks ago who went over there to study
it. She claims it is much better to learn it there, than the classes that
are offered in the States. She's been a therapist for over 20 yrs. I have
been doing massage for 32. Of course, if that's not feasible, then contact
your local AMTA and see what they might be offering. Keep in mind that once
you are licensed, you can claim that as a business write off!

Warmly,
    ~Dee~

Hi,

I'm a massage student in Arkansas who will be graduating this Sept
and I am interested in learning and practicing "thai massage".

I would like to know if anyone can tell me what to look for in a
Thai massage workshop? There are none here in Arkansas, so I will
have to travel out of state for it, and I saw on a few websites that
there are "certification" in it if I take a "series" of classes.

Thanks for any help =)

Hi all! I am so happy to have found this site. I am a student of Massage
Therapy here in the US. I will be graduating in 4 months. I want to start
my own practice from home and offer only Thai massage. Do you think
Ancientmassage aka Thai massage is the same as Thai Yoga massage?

While I was studying Thai massage at Wat Po in Thailand, none of the
teachers does yoga but again, I found many practitioners called their
practice Thai Yoga massage. Can anyone tell me the different?

Thanks,
Chinda

Hi!

I am responding to an email where you asked about a therapist in the
NYC
area who performed ancient massage. Here I am! Actually, I am going
on
sept. 4th
to look into relocating. So, I will go around to check out different
gyms,
spas, hotels seeking such a therapist. What I perform is definately
unique
and as far as I know, there are few, if any! in NYC who perform such a
technique. It is called Ashiatsu Oriental Bar Therapy. My website
is not working right now...it should be back on any day...when it is
back on, check out www.massagemedicine.com and get
back to me if you would like to meet at some point. I will be there
until
the 9th. In the meantime with my site being down, check out
deepfeet.com. That is the work I do! =)

Look forward to speaking with you!

like to study at a seriuos school instead of those intended for
tourist. Does anyone know of any good school in Chiang mai? or
anywhere else? How long should I plan to stay to study? How are
these schools compared to the ones in the western countries? Thanks
in advance for any info.

I learned Thai Massage 2 years ago, and went for more training last
year. However, since my practice is based primarily on
Swedish/Trigger Point Therapy (been in independent practice for 3
years now), I haven't been doing Thai massage regularly .

Until a few weeks ago.

It's certainly rejuvenating for my clients and myself, and they love
it. However, I have noticed that I finish my 90 minute routine 10
minutes earlier, and I never ever get through to a 2 hour
session ,because by then I'm done with most positions. One thing I
have noticed is that during the thumbing of energy lines on the legs,
I may be doing it too fast. So maybe I may be going through the
routine a bit too fast (especially since I'm out of practice maybe).
What is the ryhthm that I can use to remind myself not to go too
fast? ANy suggestions?

When thumbwalking the leg lines I tend to use a thumb length distance
between points, if the area or line needs special attention for any
reason (to many to list) then I walk with the thumbs very close
together.

On the low back pain, correct posture is the first thing that comes
to mind. Even if your back is straight there may be other problems,
say you are doing the correct posture for yourself and the client.
Watch/feel how the energy flows through your body and why it
is 'building up' to give you back pain. Possibly your holding your
back or other parts of your body tense, like your shoulders, hips or
legs.

Then again maybe it's not physical at all, something could be
expressing itself in your back pain from an mental/emotional
standpoint or through the way you are using your breath.

Hope you find a solution!

Affectionately,
James

I tend to walk each of the lines completely with firm
pressure, but I find I have a back ache at the end of
giving each massage from being bent over my client for
so long. Any suggestions?
